Margetus Martin Schwind peacefully passed away March 18, 2025, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND, with his loving wife, Eva, by his side.
Born February 18, 1935, in Zeeland, ND, Margetus was the cherished son of Henry and Magdalena (Meidinger) Schwind. Despite completing only the 8th grade, he embodied the spirit of hard work and dedication throughout his life. Margetus married his devoted wife, Eva Bader, on August 28, 1960, and together they shared 64 wonderful years of love and companionship.
Margetus’ journey through life took him from the farms of Zeeland to the bustling city of Fargo in October of 1964, and eventually to West Fargo in August of 2021. Throughout his career, Margetus worked diligently in the construction industry, providing for his family. In the early 1980s, he proudly founded Marken Construction, building a legacy alongside his son-in-law, Ken Bergh.
A man of faith, Margetus, along with Eva, became baptized as Jehovah’s Witnesses on December 4, 1971, after diligently exploring and studying Bible truths. His faith provided him comfort and strength throughout his life. Margetus had a passion for gardening, especially cultivating juicy tomatoes, which he looks forward to growing in the earthly paradise promised in the Scriptures. He also enjoyed the warmth of family and friends, often sharing laughter over card games of Pinochle and Cribbage. Fishing for the elusive Walleye brought him joy, as did cheering on his favorite sports teams.
Margetus is survived by his wife, Eva, West Fargo, ND; daughters, Tena (Kenneth) Bergh, West Fargo, ND and Shari (Jay C) Krabbenhoft, Fargo, ND; 1 granddaughter, and 1 great-grandson; 2 brothers, Gary & Harley; 4 sisters, Laverne, Marlus (his twin), Beatrice, & Jeanette; along with many, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his oldest daughter, Valorie Schwind; and 7 brothers and 3 sisters.
The family is holding a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses (2207 18th St S, Fargo, ND)

A great man and shinning example of hard work, integrity and his faith are some of the traits that come to mind when thinking about “Getus”. I fist met him as a young man in the 1980’s selling he and Ken building materials. I consider him a friend in this life and he taught me some life’s lessons along the way. One of the phrases I will always remember “watch the pennies and the dollars will follow” is so true.
Prayers, Grace and Peace to the family.
Rest in Peace Margetus.
Larry Meidinger
I will forever miss you. I don’t know who am gonna hug like I used to do to you! I know Jehovah gonna remember you in the grand resurrection. I will be there waiting for my hug and hearing you say, I miss you, sister Johnson, you are such a nice person, and I love you so much.
We are deeply saddened to hear about the loss of your father. Please know that our thoughts are with all of you during this difficult time.
Your faith teaches that Jehovah lovingly remembers those who have fallen asleep in death and offers the hope of a resurrection. I hope this promise brings you comfort and peace, knowing that your father is in Jehovah’s memory and that you may see him again in the future.
If there’s anything I can do to support you, or if you just need someone to listen, I’m here for you. Wishing you strength and solace in the days ahead.
With heartfelt sympathy
There are no words to express love, kindness and friendship that “Mark” and Eva Showed us when we Moved to Fargo. They made us feel like Family. Losing him even for a little while means that a member of our family will be sorely missed. He was always ready for the “Big Hug” and we always felt the love. For a while he thought our names were brother and sister “Smoothie.” Something got lost in translation but it made us even fonder of him. Looking forward to seeing him again soon. We will miss him so much.
I was so sad to see the news about Mark this morning. I have not seen Mark in about 6 years since we moved out of Fargo, but will never forget his kindness and sense of humor. When my wife Kim went through cancer in 2008, Mark was always the first one to come up to her with a big hug. Our hearts go out to Eva, Shari and Tina. Thankfully, our faith gives us the hope of seeing Mark again.
Family, So very sorry for your loss. This uncle was such a fun person. I reflect back to years ago when we would go out harvesting horseradish and then processing it at our farm house. Peeling, chopping, blending brought on lots of tears and runny noses, and we would laugh and whine about how powerful that process was, running outside to get some fresh air. Eventually we figured out that processing horseradish was much more comfortable outside. 🙂 Other fond memories of his teasing us kids and including the little ones in his shenanigans. I am sorry I will not be able to attend the services. My heart is with you all.
