Marjorie Emma Riemer, 92, passed away in the Sanford Hillsboro Care Center on March 30, 2025. Marjorie Emma Steffen was born on November 28, 1932, to Henry and Dorothea (Grothmann) Steffen. She grew up in Blanchard, North Dakota alongside her five brothers and one sister. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church. In 1950 she graduated from Hillsboro High School.

Marjorie met her husband Donald Riemer at a church related activity. They were married on February 27, 1957. They made their home in rural Hillsboro where they raised their three children.

Marjorie worked at Northwestern Bank in Hillsboro for seven years before getting married and becoming a full time mom along with helping out on the family farm. She enjoyed gardening, baking, quilting, doing jigsaw puzzles, and being outside. She also enjoyed following the Hillsboro Burros and the NDSU Bison. She took great joy in her role as a grandmother, finding delight in her grandchildren’s activities and accomplishments, as well as just being around them. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy!

A steadfast member of St. John Lutheran Church, Marjorie was actively involved in LWML, contributing her time and spiritual devotion to uplift her community. She was active in a homemakers club at one time. Marjorie was a beacon of kindness and generosity, always ready to volunteer for various causes. On Sundays she enjoyed listening to Polka Party.

Marjorie is survived by her children, Curtis (Stacey) Riemer, Hillsboro, ND, Peggy Riemer, Hillsboro, and Carolyn (Randy) Schatz, Horace, ND; brothers, Willard Steffen, Fergus Falls, MN and Robert (Susan) Steffen, Dayton, MN; sisters-in-law, Joanne Steffen, Fargo and Sharon Steffen, Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren, Dale (Marie) Riemer, Gust Riemer, Jessica Schatz, and Devin (Amanda) Schatz; great-grandchildren, Lola, Boden, Vivian, Freya, and Hazel; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Prayer for you on Marjories passing. I visited her just a few times but remember her from our time at Grace Lutheran in Grandin. We talked about Pastors that we knew and loved in our past. God bless her memory.

  2. My thoughts and Prayers go out to your entire family 💗 I remember when Marjorie came to visit Elaine years ago in Denver and I was blessed to met her and her mother. To top it off I got to do her hair.
    I still miss Elaine tremendously.

    Sending love,
    Denna Peters

  3. My sympathies on the loss of Margie. A few years ago, Beth and I stopped by and had a very pleasant visit with her. Margie was a wonderful person, always with a smile. She will be missed by all who knew her.

  4. Peggy. My sympathies. So hard to realize that all our mom’s from our high school days are gone. They were so supportive when we were starting out in track and basketball.
    Treasure your memories.
