Mark George Bernstein, beloved son, brother, significant other, and step-father passed away at home on October 21, 2024. Mark was a cherished presence in the lives of many, known for his hospitality, strength, independence, hard work, commanding presence and unwavering support of family and friends.
Biography
Born on August 18, 1955, in Austin, Minnesota, Mark was the son of Kathleen A. Davidson and Leroy G. Bernstein. He graduated from Shanley High School in 1973 and went on to build a successful career in the house and large machinery moving industry. After working with Valley Movers, a business first owned by his father and close friend, Larry Heyd, Mark and his brother became co-owners in 1989 and were part of notable and monumental moves within the Fargo-Moorhead community and beyond. After Valley Mover’s closure in 2010, he joined Industrial Builders Inc. until his retirement in 2022. Following retirement, he continued to share his expertise as a consultant.
Mark’s life was marked by notable achievements. A natural leader, he not only owned an impactful business but also served as the president of a motorcycle club. His commitment to the community and support for youth was evident through his volunteer work and donations he gave.
Personal Life
As fate would have it, in 1993 Mark met and fell in love with Ginger Meyer, the daughter of the first employee of Valley Movers. With Ginger, came four young girls that Mark loved like his own. Family was very important to Mark, he was a proud stepfather to Teresa, Tiffaney, Natalie, and Tabitha and treasured his role as a grandfather to Jasmine, Javon, Josiah, Ryker, Oren and Noah.
He had a passion for camping, snowmobiling, hunting, motorcycling and cooking. He was often entertaining his friends and family with his grilling and smoking skills. Though not overly talkative, Mark loved being surrounded by people and engaging in social activities where he would bring people together, even creating a butcher shop out of a converted building including commercial equipment where he and his friends could carry out their hobby of hunting and preparing meats and other foods.
Mark was a faithful man; he enjoyed and valued the time he spent in worship or practicing his faith independently or with his good friends Greg Schmitke and Paul Dellaneva. Mark was the kind of guy who made you feel like family. You could always count on Mark to lend a helping hand or give meaningful advice.
