Mary Josphine (Peterson) Altstadt, age 82, of Fargo, ND, passed away at Bethany on University in Fargo, ND on March 25, 2025 with her husband Tom and son Todd by her side. Born on January 31, 1943, Mary was the third oldest child of Justus and Elizabeth Peterson, Wheatland, ND. She attended school in a one-room rural schoolhouse through the 5th grade, Wheatland Elementary School for grades 6 and 7, and then completed grades 8-12 and graduated in 1960 from Lincoln High School in Casselton, ND.

On February 13, 1982, Mary married Thomas Altstadt.

During her professional career, she was employed at several businesses in the Fargo area, eventually settling on a career in banking. This led her to a position at Bremer Bank’s Corporate Office in South Saint Paul, MN. She completed her career at Key Community Bank, Inver Grove Heights, MN, when she retired in 2013 as Vice President of Retail Sales.

Mary and her husband, Tom, lived for two years after retirement in Fergus Falls, MN, then they moved to their present home in Fargo.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, J. Kenneth Peterson; her sister, Beth Radermacher; and her nephew, Christopher Myhre.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Altstadt; her two sons, Todd (Stephanie) Barney and their children; Nicholas (fiance, Farryn Helm), Alexander (Britt), Kellyn (Brock Saewert), and Timothy Barney, and his children; Jadie (Justin) Nygaard, Alyssa, Preston, Jacob; her brother, Curt (Judy) Peterson; her sister, Cindie Inis; as well as several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral Service: 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at Boulger Funeral Home & Celebration of Life Center, Fargo with visitation starting at 12:00 P.M. Burial will take place at Casselton Cemetery, Casselton, North Dakota.
