Matthew Evan Warren, 62, passed away peacefully in his residence surrounded with love and support of the Red River Human Services Foundation, on May 13, 2021, in West Fargo, ND.
Matthew was born at St. Luke’s Hospital on May 29, 1958 in Fargo, ND. He was the first of three children born to Theodore and Eileen Warren. After living in Bismarck, ND, Matthew and his family moved to Valley City, ND. Matthew’s first job was as a custodian at Gamble’s Hardware in Valley City, ND. Matthew graduated from Valley City High School in 1978. In 1979, Matthew moved with his family to Cando, ND where he was in charge of cleaning Cando Drug and Gift in the mornings. Matthew also worked at Mark’s Cando Chevrolet, cleaning offices. Matthew’s amazing love of life made an impact on all those he met and worked with.
In 2003, Matthew had the amazing opportunity to move out of his family home and into RRHSF’s, SVEE home in West Fargo and later moved to the 903 home, in 2019. Matthew loved to ride his bicycle, swim, bowl, and dance to all his favorite music to entertain anyone lucky enough to watch. While living in Fargo, Matthew was employed through DWAC and VTC where he made lifelong friends. Matthew enjoyed performing in musicals, DWAC banquets and RRHSF’s annual Christmas programs, where he showed off his acting talents and dance moves. Some of his most memorable roles include: Elvis Presley, Archie Bunker, and Rocky Balboa impersonations and boxing moves as well as Michael Jackson Thriller dance moves. Matthew also participated in Special Olympics of North Dakota where he was able to showcase his many skills. Matthew was a friend to everyone and truly brought joy everywhere he went.
Matthew is survived by his father, Theodore; siblings, Chris (Tracy) Warren [Scottsdale, AZ], Rebecca (Donald) Ruhmann [Seattle, WA]; nieces, Celestine Ruhmann [Seattle, WA], Megan (Travis) Thorpe [Gilbert, AZ]; and nephew, Brent Warren [Santa Monica, CA].
Matthew is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Eileen.
The family of Matthew would like to thank Shawna Steen from Catholic Charities ND, the amazing staff at RRHSF, SVEE and 903 Homes and Hospice of RRV.
The family of Matthew is grateful for the unconditional love and care he received throughout his RRHSF life, especially during the difficult times of COVID visitation restrictions.
So many great memories of Matthew at DWAC. He was a great performer who loved the stage! He loved laughing and joking with his friends, I just have to smile whenever I think of him. I’m sure he is entertaining everyone in heaven and has already met new friends. To Matt’s family, thanks for sharing him with us – He made all of our lives a little brighter! Judy Nelson

To All,
Greatest big bro any little brother could have!!
Sorry for your loss, Rebecca & families! I remember Matt well when we stayed at your home many years ago!!
I have wonderful memories of Matt and his family as friends and neighbors in Valley City. He named our stray cat Bob White thinking it was an appropriate name for a cat adopted in our home.
Prayers for you, Ted, and your family. Love from Janet Brown
My deepest sympathies to the Warren family. My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief.
Matthew and his goofy personality will surely be missed! I always loved every time he got his haircut because he’d tell me he looked like John Wheeler now and he would be so excited!
He was one of a kind!
Sending my thoughts and prayers to his family and friends,
Love, Jane M
Ted and family, I was sorry to hear of your loss. Thinking of Matthew when he lived in Cando brings a smile to my face. I could count on hearing him say “Hi Norm!” anytime I met him on the street! Cando lost a wonderful person when he and his family moved away.

Matthew was such a joy to be around. I feel blessed to have worked with him for so many years…at DWAC and after as his Program Manager but I consider him more as a friend. His love of music and natural showmanship will never be forgotten. I will miss you Matt. Rest In Peace. Paula Meyer.
