Born in: Alice , North Dakota
Resided in: Fargo, North Dakota

Maurice was born on July 17, 1933, at Alice General Hospital in Alice, North Dakota. He was the beloved son of Edward and Sadie, who raised him with love and care. After graduating from Enderlin High School in 1951, Maurice began to carve out his path in the world.

On a special day, he met Carole, the true love of his life. They married on Valentine’s Day in 1953. Their union brought joy and companionship as they shared 66 wonderful years, building a life filled with their six children, love, and shared dreams.

Over the years, Maurice moved between several places, embracing new adventures in Alice, Enderlin, Fargo, and even Yuma, Arizona, before finding his way back to Fargo. He dedicated himself to many jobs, including roles at Boeing Aircraft, the local grocery store, the Soo Line in Enderlin, Morry’s Steakhouse, and Fargo Traffic Safety Service. His commitment to his work was matched by his deep connection to his community, where he found purpose and friendship as a member of St. Henry’s Church in Alice and St. Patrick’s Church in Enderlin.

Maurice had a variety of hobbies that brought him joy. He loved putzing and spending time in his garage, working on projects, riding his scooter, and he also cherished long drives in the car. He even entertained those around him with his cheerful whistling. In his younger days, he was a catcher for the Enderlin Indies baseball team.

Maurice’s life was a beautiful journey marked by love, connection, and the simple joys of everyday moments. His story reminds us of the importance of cherishing our loved ones and savoring the little things that bring happiness.

Maurice is survived by his children, Patti (Don) Godtel, Mike (Wanda) Wavra, Jodi Forcucci, Amy (Don) Thilmony, Sue (Jeff) Rich, Sara (Brock) Laber; grandkids, Beau (Marde) Godtel, Andy Godtel, Rachel (John) Robinson, Lauren (Jacob) Bontije, Joey Forcucci, Nicholas (Sarah) Thilmony, Chelsie (Shane) Kennedy, Molly (Matt) Navratil, Emily (Elijah) Clover, Sadie Rich, Kasey (John) Urzendowski, Anthony Laber, and Danny (Racheal) Forcucci; 19 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Leah Wavra and Betty Wavra; and all his friends at Homefield Apartments.

Morry was preceded in death by his wife, Carole; parents, Edward and Sadie; brothers, Malon, Tucker and Jerry; and sister-in-law, Donnene.

Burial will take place at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Enderlin, ND, following the Funeral Mass.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Cousin Morry, you lived your life to the fullest!
So many memories through the years.
Yes, you are with Carol again.
    God bless.

  2. I will really miss seeing Maury around our building. He loved the outdoors. Loved to see that smile. Rest easy and glad you and Carol are reunited.

  3. I will really miss seeing Maury around our building. He loved the outdoors. Loved to see that smile. Rest easy and glad you and Carole are reunited.

  4. Years ago Sue and I were in Girl Scouts together and every week we sang the song “Make new friends but keep the old, one is silver and the other is gold”. Sue and I are gold friends, and I was fortunate to also have a gold family. Morry and Carole always treated me as one of their own and I will be forever grateful for their kindness.
    Love,
    Dianne

  5. To family and friends of Mory: we extend our deepest sympathies.
Margaret Dagman has many fond memories of when she and Vernon were neighbors of Mory, Carole and family.
Wonderful family and great fun neighbors. God bless Mory’s memory.
    Sending Love!
    Margaret, Virgil and Sheryl Dagman

  6. Very sorry for your family’s loss. Morry was a one of a kind man. We looked forward to our summers visiting with him at Loon Lake and watching him with his B-plastics pontoon. Always a fun time with Morry. Loved the smell of him cooking up a batch of his barbecue sauce. He was the last of the original hill gang at Loon.

  7. Morry and Carole were life long friends of my parents and were often present throughout our lives.

They all went to high school together, owned businesses in 1960’s Enderlin, were active in the Chamber of Commerce, the Jaycee’s, and were members of St Patrick’s church – Morry was my brother’s confirmation sponsor.

In retirement, they all flocked to Yuma, AZ following the snowbird life style. I often witnessed enjoyable times they had together on my visits from California.

The fun they shared throughout their lives and the dedication to their life long friendship was very special and I think unique. I deeply admire and am envious of the love they all shared. Lives well lived.

May they all rest in peace.

  8. My condolences to Maurice’s family. He was a very sweet man and it carried through his family whom I also had the pleasure to work with. Rest well Maurice.

  9. I have such fond wonderful memories of Uncle Morry. It makes me sad that I will not be able to attend his memorial and share stories with the “Wavra Kids” . I will share some of those stories with my son here in Denmark tomorrow and toast to the kind man he was (with the closest thing to a Hamms that I can find here). May your memories of him be a blessing every day.
