Mildred passed away on April 19, 2025, at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo, at the age of 104.

Mildred Svaleson was born on April 8, 1921, the daughter of Carl “Charlie” and Marie (Kjos) Svaleson in Mayville, ND. She attended country school near Buxton, ND.

Mildred was united in marriage to Chester Ramsfield on September 7,1940, in Crookston, MN. They first made their home in Buxton, later moving to Hillsboro. During their early years of marriage, Millie worked in grocery stores in Mayville, Buxton, and Hillsboro, later working at Northwestern Bank. Following Chester’s passing in 1970, Millie moved to Fargo where she worked for First National Bank and Wells Fargo Bank for several years. Mildred was most well known for her worked at Jim’s Super Value and Hornbacher’s as the “Demo Lady”. She loved visiting with her customers, and the customers loved visiting with her as well – she was always a highlight of trip to the grocery store for many.

Mildred was an excellent cook and baker – she loved sharing with her family and neighbors – her lefsa was notorious.

Mildred is survived by her two granddaughters – Rhonda Tommerdahl of Moorhead, MN; and Jodi (Michael) Tommerdahl – Bielinski of Irving, TX; her great grandchildren – Sophie Tommerdahl, Anya Bielinski, and Matt Bielinski; and several nieces and nephews and many other very dear extended relatives.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Chester; her daughter and son-in-law, Janice (Ronnie) Tommerdahl; and her siblings – Alvin Svaleson, Elmer Svaleson, Norman Svaleson, Merton Svaleson, Esther Soderberg, and Elaine Grobe.

FUNERAL SERVICE: 2 PM Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center in Fargo – with a visitation one hour prior

BURIAL: Riverside Cemetery in Hillsboro

  4. I worked with Millle at Northwestern State Bank in Hillsboro and always enjoyed my time with her. She was such a friendly and fun person. We had many good times at the Bank and after banking hours. She and Chet were always fun to be with. Thanks for the many memories. Jack Hansen.
