Milton H. Oestreich, age 93, formerly of Walcott, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo.
Milton was born on January 25, 1932, in Breckenridge, Minnesota, to Milton Sr. and Alice (Ellenson) Oestreich. He grew up in Walcott, where he graduated from high school in 1949. On January 9, 1951, Milton enlisted in the United States Air Force, Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio (TX). He trained at Killeen Base and Fort Hood (TX), and he served at Sandia Base and Manzano Base (NM) with the Air Force Special Weapons Project. He was honorably discharged on January 8, 1955, and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the National Service Defense Medal.
Milton farmed in the Walcott area and later worked in maintenance at the Walcott School until its closure. He then joined the Kindred School system, where he worked until his retirement.
Milton and his beloved wife Janice spent many winters in Las Vegas and enjoyed their condo in Maui, Hawaii. They loved spending as much time as possible at their beautiful lake home. Milton enjoyed spending time with his kids, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Milton was known for his love of socializing, and deep devotion to family. He will be dearly missed.
Milton is survived by his children, David (Robin) Oestreich, Gregory (Beth) Oestreich, and Susan (Jeff) Hanson; seven grandchildren: Kali (Sam) Heyen, Brett (Kendra) Oestreich, Jenna (Justin) Pieterick, Alex (Lexi) Oestreich, Alix (Weston) Schoening, Xavier Castro, and Aden Oestreich; and 13 great-grandchildren: Henry, Camryn, Isabelle, Andrew, Lincoln, Bode, Bauer, Grayson, Brooks, Remi, Rian, Grady, and Harper. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Bette Jordheim; brother-in-law, Orval Beadles; and sister-in-law Shirley Bolme.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Janice; his parents, Milton Sr. and Alice; sisters, Alice (Percy) Erickson, Helen (LeRoy) Anderson, Rose (Glen) Jones, and Melva (Bud) Nelson; and sisters-in-law, Elaine Beadles and Gail King, and brothers-in-law, Rick Bolme and Orland Jordheim.
Lunch will be provided following the service.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Walcott Veterans Memorial or the Walcott Cemetery.
