Prayer Service:

Nicholas Lee Boeddeker, a beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the age of 45.

He leaves behind his parents, Neil and Mary Sue Boeddeker of Hillsboro, his younger sister, Rachel (Adam) Widener and his nephew and nieces Samuel, Nora and Claire, whom he felt blessed to see just a few weeks ago, along with many aunts and uncles, cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.

Nicholas was welcomed into heaven by his paternal grandparents, Joseph and Vergie Boeddeker, his maternal grandparents, Ethel Mae and Harry Smith, his uncle, David Smith and his aunts, Christy Boeddeker and Cathy Boeddeker Kruse.
Born on August 2nd, 1980 in Hillsboro, North Dakota, Nicholas was the cherished son of Neil and Mary Sue (Smith) Boeddeker. He grew up in Hillsboro, where he developed a deep appreciation and love for his family and his grandparents farm. He graduated from Hillsboro High School and later earned his degree from Mayville State University.

Nick was an avid reader and particularly enjoyed the suspenseful worlds created by author Stephen King. He had a deep love for music of all genres and liked to attend concerts and festivals with friends and family. Nick was an ardent sports enthusiast and particularly loved the Baltimore Ravens, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the UND Fighting Sioux hockey team. He also enjoyed placing a friendly wager on his favorite team, the Manchester United Soccer team – adding a little excitement to every match.

Whether through a well-timed joke, a thoughtful gesture or a spirited game-day conversation, Nick will be remembered for his kind heart and special way of making people smile.

In lieu of flowers, Mary Sue and Neil request that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association or the National Kidney Foundation.

  1. I worked with Nick at the Traill County Highway Department for a few years. We all would hang out after work and I will remember the Grandin smelt frys and carpooling to Grandin with all the highway guys. I was shocked to hear of his passing as I hadn’t talked or seen him in person for quite a few years. I hope the family will find some comfort in all the good memories of Nick!
