Norma Jean (Buerkle) Himmerich, 84, of Fargo, ND, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the Essentia Cardiac Care unit in Fargo, ND.

Norma was born in Fredonia, ND on November 2, 1940, to Albert and Esther (Messner) Buerkle. She graduated from Kulm High School in 1958 and then moved to Fargo where she worked various jobs and raised her children. She worked at Dahl’s Super Value Bakery for 10 years, at Dakota Hospital for 23 years and at Bethany Nursing Home for 7 years before retiring in Fargo.

Norma enjoyed reading, painting, singing karaoke, putting puzzles together, playing cards, and crocheting. She always had a funny story to tell and loved to make people laugh. She adored her “red headed” cats Rubyn and Phillip. She especially loved spending time with her friends and family.

Survivors include her daughter Jolene (Phil) Wiebold, Fargo, ND; granddaughter Katelyn (Brady) Sparks and great-grandson William Thomas Sparks, Horace, ND; and step-granddaughter Brittany (Alyssa) Nichols, Fargo, ND. She is also survived by special friends Curt and Sharon Dement, Fargo, ND; Mike and Becky Hamilton, West Fargo, ND; Jan Nelson, West Fargo, ND; and Lisa (Shraufek) and Bob Erickson, Minneapolis, MN; and the rest of the Shraufek family.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, and her five siblings Charles (infant), Arlene Knect, Ruby Presler, Doris Noren, and Elroy Buerkle, and sons Kenneth Lee Himmerich and Keith Allen Himmerich.

    Norma was like a 2nd mother to me. She’s been part of my life for so many years. Many drives to Skateland, the lake and countless sleepovers. I have many memories of good laughs and fun times. She’ll truly be missed. Heaven gained a very special angel. Rest in peace Norma.
