Olaf Hertsgaard
 
                                    January 1, 1970 ~ July 5, 2003
						Olaf Hertsgaard, 81, formerly Kindred,  ND, died at his home in Fargo  on Saturday, July 5, 2003. 
Olaf G. Hertsgaard was born to Amund and Tilda Hertsgaard in Kindred, North Dakota on September 24, 1921. He grew up and attended school in Kindred, graduating from High School there in 1939. Olaf then attended  NDSU and Concordia College, Moorhead before joining his father on the family farm at Kindred. Olaf and his brother, Paul, started farming beets when the Moorhead Sugar Beet plant was started in 1948. Olaf Hertsgaard married Gloria Dura Merrigan on November 9, 1972. They lived on the family farm until moving to Kindred in 1985. They came to Fargo in October of 2001.  Olaf served on the Board of Directors of the Sugarbeet Growers Association and served on various local boards in the Kindred area. He was a lifelong member of Kindred Lutheran Church, Kindred.
He is survived by wife, Gloria, Fargo; three children, Vickie (Allan) Nelson, Lidgerwood,  ND, Donna (Kevin) Lipetzky, Fargo, and Gwen (Jim) Howe, Casselton,  ND; one brother, Paul Hertsgaard, Fargo; one sister-in-law, Doris Hertsgaard; eight grandchildren, Amy (Justin) Holland, Jennifer (Jeff) Hoeft, Brenda (Kurt) Hendrickson, Donald (Laura) Hodgson, Brenton (Sarah Strom) Hodgson, Kathryn (Gene) Birklid, Virginia Howe, and Michael Howe; three great granddaughters, Gracie and Claire Hoeft, and Paige Hendrickson; nephews, John (Jean) Hertsgaard and Craig (Karen) Hertsgaard; nieces, Ruth Hertsgaard, Terry (Farr) Ajir, Linda Hertsgaard, and Karen Hertsgaard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Amund and Tilda, and his brother, Thor.
Funeral: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday Kindred Lutheran Church
Prayer Service: 7:00 Tuesday Fredrikson Funeral Chapel, Kindred
