It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Reinard “Reinie” Uhlich; beloved father and grandfather, who passed away on May 29th, 2025 at the age of 88 in Fargo, ND.

Reinie was born on May 27th, 1937 in Garrison, ND and was the youngest of Jacob and Christine (Schermeister) Uhlich’s four boys. In his youth, surrounded by family and a close-knit farm community, he learned the values of honesty, generosity and hard work. After high school, he attended Minot Business College where he completed his senior accounting training. Reinie served in the Army as a Radio Operator and then in the Army National Guard from 1959 to 1963. He then continued his lifelong career at Montana Dakota Utilities (MDU) and its subsidiary Williston Basin where he worked for 42 years; starting as an accounting clerk and working his way to the position of controller.

Reinie met Ann (Unna) while working at MDU in Minneapolis. They married and moved to Bismarck in 1969 where they raised their four daughters. He was often found at his daughters’ activities and sporting events or teaching them the ins and outs of taking care of the cars and home. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, and boating with family and friends. Reinie was an active member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church and the Elks Club in Bismarck. He also supported many other nonprofit organizations.

Upon his retirement, Reinie and Ann moved to Fargo, ND to be closer to their children and grandchildren. During these years Reinie enjoyed meeting with his coffee group, visiting the Fargo Zoo, and his many trips to Minneapolis and Tennessee to see his grandchildren. Reinie was known for his love of visiting with anyone and everyone; his sweet tooth; and his kindness, gentleness, and generosity.

Reinie is survived by his brother Ed Uhlich; his children Christine Uhlich, Renae (Zsolt) Muller, Carrie (Kevin) Krogen, and Janet (Mark) Samii; his 15 grandchildren; and his first great-grandson; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He is proceeded in death by his beloved wife of 35 years, Ann; his brothers Willis (Lorna) Uhlich and Alex (Marion) Uhlich; and his sister-in-law Cathy Uhlich.

A memorial service will be held at Hope Church South in Fargo, ND at 11am on Friday, June 27th. A brief burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Bismarck at 11:30am on Saturday, June 28th. Memorials in honor of Reinie can be donated to the Red River Zoo in Fargo or Sanford Hospice House of Fargo. Boulger Funeral Home of Fargo to assist with funeral preparations.
