Richard Glen Peterson, known to many as Dick or Pete, passed away on July 1, 2025.

Richard was born April 8, 1928, in Moline, Illinois, to Fred H. Peterson and Anna (Igelhart) Peterson. He was the youngest of five children. In 1934, they packed up their dairy farm in Illinois, including the equipment and animals, and moved to Edgewood Farm northeast of Fargo, North Dakota, which eventually became part of the city of Fargo. In 1950, Richard joined the Air National Guard. He retired from the Guard in 1988. In 1954, he met and married Lucylle Stenberg. They had two sons, Larry Richard Peterson and Gary Glen Peterson.

He attended Hanson Mechanical Trade School in Fargo. His first job was at the Air National Guard as a vehicle mechanic. He farmed with his brother Dale for four years before he was one of the early employees of Steiger Tractor from 1970 to 1978.

He was a loyal volunteer at Bonanzaville in West Fargo for many years. Richard restored three John Deere tractors and donated them to Bonanzaville. He also donated three John Deere tractors in need of repair to NDSU AG Engineering School. His last endeavor was with big tractor parts in Rollag, Minnesota. He rebuilt axels for Steiger and case tractors, retiring at age 87.

In 2001, he married Rosalie Hauser along with her four boys and one girl, also (at last count) 19 grandchildren. Dick and Roaslie were members of Peace Lutheran Chruch and volunteered at Churches United.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Anna; sisters Helen, Billie, and Marian; brother Dale; and wife Lucylle.

Richard is survived by wife Rosalie; sons Larry Richard Peterson, Fargo, North Dakota, and Gary Glen Peterson, Austin, Minnesota.

Memorials preferred to Peace Lutheran or Churches United for the Homeless.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Was actually just thinking about Dick last week. The Larson family knew him well. Will never forget when Dale (Pete) and Dick planted an oak tree in our yard for our Great grandpa Andrew’s 100th birthday celebration. Dick and Dale’s father was best friends with Great grandpa Larson. Will miss running into him at Hornbachers. Peace
to his family. Jim and Pattie Larson

  2. Our deepest sympathies from the Lake Agassiz Two-Cylinder Club.

Dick was one of our charter members in 1991 and he will be missed.

  3. ROSIE – TERRY AND I ARE SO SAD TO HEAR OF DICK’S PASSING. OUR HEARTS ARE HEAVY AND OUR PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.

  4. Pete Peterson was one of the nicest people I have known. Pete was my first 1st Sgt during my enlisted time at the ND Air Guard and was the one that continually reminded me that I was qualified to meet the pilot selection board. He was one of the most professional, hard working and nicest persons we had at the ND Air Guard and I always respected the time we had together. May he rest in peace

  5. Dick was an amazing man. Kind and always willing to lend a hand. It was my privilege to know him these last 7 years. God’s peace to Rosalie and all the kids.

  6. Our visits with Dick were few but we greatly enjoyed every minute of them—Sig & he found so much to talk about. He was a kind & gentle soul. Our love & sympathy to Rose & family.

  7. I was a very close friend and neighbor of the Peterson family when they lived on 10th Street. I enjoyed many great times with Lucylle and Gary… Blessed be the memories.
