He attended and graduated from Lansford High School, Lansford, North Dakota. Dick worked on the farm with his dad, oil rigs in Wyoming, railroad, Volkswagen car salesman in Minot and then worked for many different construction companies as a heavy equipment operator for over 35 years until his retirement. Dick married Fern Zietz December 10, 1955 and had five sons. Dick met Norma Hvidsten and spent many years together before being married on September 3, 1999 in Sisseton, South Dakota until her death on March 10, 2019. Dick loved to sing karaoke, listening to country music, telling jokes, reminiscing about the old days, John Wayne and watching old westerns. Anyone that knew Dick knew that he was a very loving man and would give you the shirt off his back. He took in many people that were down on their luck and helped raise many young people during their teenage years. He will surely be missed by many that called him dad, gramps, and pop. He always saw the best in others and his smile and laugh were contagious. Dick could make you laugh so hard it would hurt; because of this he made friends everywhere he went. 1. Dick was the best man i know! He always welcomed me into his home whenever I stopped by the house and i am going to miss him so very much! I’m still in shock over his passing because he was such a tough man and i guess i felt he was going to out live me. He will be missed greatly. My thoughts and prayers are with his family in this very sad time. I know he will be watching over all of you. So hopefully you all can be on your best behavior for him. He was the peacemaker and would want you all to love one another. I am so grateful to have had the honor of knowing Dick, he was by far one of the best men I’ve ever known and he’s truly going to be missed! We love you Dick!!!!

  4. My great uncle Dick. No words can ever say how wonderful he was. The way he laughed, the way he talked with his deep voice and just who he was period made me proud he was my uncle. He brought out the best in so many people. My dad was always smiling when Dick was around and as a young girl it ment so much to see them laugh together and just listen to the stories. I always loved his big hats and how he walked like he was bigger than life. His big cars. Shoot everything he did was in a big way. He loved his family and his friends and showed it in a big way.

He will always be missed. Love you all

  5. When I was a little girl we would go to Lansforord to visit my grandparents and uncle Dicks parents lived across the street so we always got to see this special uncle. He always had a big cowboy hat, a big cigar,a big car(sometimes a small Volkswagen) a big smile and eyes that said he loved you without saying a word. He was such a happy fun loving uncle who loved kids especially his boys. I know he’s dancing with his angel Norma in heaven ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

  6. I am at a loss to hear of Dick’s passing! Norma and he have been like family for many years since he and Bear were roommates on the road for Boarder States. Love and Hugs to the whole family! God bless!
