Rodney Gilbert Meyer passed away peacefully at the age of 78 surrounded by his family at Sanford in Fargo, ND on the morning of October 29, 2024.

Rodney was born February 9, 1946, in Fargo, ND to Gilbert and Eunice Meyer. Rodney attended country school in Hillsboro, ND for early education, then graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1964. After graduating, he joined the North Dakota National Guard and served with them for six years. Rodney joined in holy matrimony to his first love Jeanne Swenson, on June 30, 1973, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston, MN.

In 1965 he joined in working on the family farm with his father Gilbert. Rodney was passionate about farming and continued farming until 1997; after, he worked for Forum Communications Printing, and then D&M Industries of Moorhead, MN until his retirement in 2018.

During his time farming, Rodney served on the Board of Directors for his local Farmers Union for a number of years. Rodney was also a lifelong member St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, and, served as a Trustee for several years. His real passion, besides farming, was spending time at Upper Red Lake with his family and friends. He spent much of his retirement enjoying the family the lake cabin, fishing, sharing stories by the campfire, and being “Silly Grandpa” to his grandkids.

Rodney is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Jeanne; children, Matthew Meyer of Stanton, ND, Nathan Meyer of Omaha, NE, Amanda Meyer of Moorhead, MN, and Christopher of Hillsboro, ND; grandchildren, Garrett Meyer of Fargo, ND and Claire and Sam Meyer of Omaha, NE; sister, Joanne Watson of Eagan, MN; brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel and Bonnie Swenson of Crookston, MN and Duane and Vicki Swenson of Independence, MN; as well as many nephews, a niece, great-nephew, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Eunice; his father and mother in-law, Don and Theresa Swenson of Crookston, MN; and his nephew, Michael Swenson of Crookston, MN.

The family would like to thank Sanford Hospital, and the Hospice care he received in his final hours.

Funeral Service – 11am St. Johns Lutheran Church Hillsboro, ND

Burial at Riverside Cemetery Hillsboro to follow

  4. I’m Sam Meyer Rodney’s grandson that I called silly grandpa.Im gonna miss him and my dad having their daily phone calls.I also liked when he was funny no matter how much pain he was in I’m truly going to miss him.
