Ronald Liebl

February 2, 1946 ~ October 6, 2025

Ronald H. Liebl, husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather passed away peacefully on Monday, October 6, 2025, at the Fargo VA Medical Center with his beloved family by his side.

Ron was born and raised in Mahnomen and graduated from Mahnomen High School in 1964. Four years later he graduated from Moorhead State University.
On June 8, 1968, Ron married Bonnie, his best friend and soulmate. Together they shared over 57 years of togetherness filled with love, laughter, and memories.

Ron was a proud father to Jennifer and Douglas.

In 1969, Ron was called into military service (Army) during the Vietnam War. He was assigned duty as a physical therapist at Darnall Army Hospital in Ft. Hood, Texas. It was an honor to bring care and comfort to many critically injured soldiers. Ron was honorably discharged in 1971. Upon discharge, Ron returned to teaching, and in the fall of 1974, Ron began his teaching and coaching career in Mahnomen. During his 35 years in education, his favorite memories were coaching Mahnomen football. He loved teaching young men the finesse of the game. When visiting with his coaching partners, Kenny and John, the conversation always turned to the well executed “big plays” that won games. Ron was proud of his players and their ability to bring home several State Championships to the fine community of Mahnomen.

Ron was an easy going, like-able person, with many good friends. He loved playing games and sports of all kinds with his kids, and later, his granddaughters – including how to shoot a BB gun.

He occasionally tried to trick them when playing cards or shooting pool, but they quickly caught onto his fun mischief. Ron always enjoyed spending time with his family.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred and Camille Liebl; infant son, Gary; sisters, Corrine Christenson and Pat Liebl; and brother, Michael Liebl. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, and children Jennifer (Raymond) Cook, and Douglas Liebl; son-in-law, Raymond Cook; granddaughters, Camille and Natalie Cook; brother, David Liebl; brothers-in-law. Cliff Johnson and Paul Christensen; sisters-in-law Shirley Johnson and Dianne Liebl.

Services will be held at a later date.

“A little mischief now and then is relished by the BEST of men.” (Ron’s MHS 1964 yearbook quote)
