Ronald Stuart

Ronald “Cardboard” Stuart, 89, a long-time resident of Hillsboro, ND and recently Northwood, ND, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Northwood Deaconess Health Center. Ronald Walter Stuart was born May 28, 1932 to Gordon and Freda (Engel) Stuart in Grand Forks, ND. After the passing of his father, when Ron was six years old, his mother moved the family to Hillsboro. He was confirmed in Our Saviors Lutheran Church, and graduated Hillsboro High School in 1950. Ron married Vernita Bailey on April 12, 1956. Together they made their home in Hillsboro while operating Stuart Implement, farming and raising their four children. Ron was mayor of Hillsboro from 1966-1974. He loved to fly and was at the helm until age 82. Ron was an avid runner, a sportsman, a good steward of the land, a keen business man, had an exemplary work ethic and a wit not always appreciated. You always knew where you stood with Ron. He loved his family and friends, with his favorite being the dog, Cactus. Ronald is survived by his sons Jeff (Melissa) of Blanchard, ND and Brad of Hillsboro; daughter Beth Ann (Aaron) Johnson of rural Hatton, ND; grandchildren Macy Stuart, Jens Johnson, Caitlyn Stuart, Scott Johnson, Colton Stuart, and Ashley, Josh and Andrew Henn; brother Thomas (Toni) Stuart of Berlin, MD; sisters-in-law Mary Stuart of Brea, CA, Lois Stuart of Oceanside, CA, and Dianne Bailey of Detroit Lakes, MN; and several extended family members. Ron was preceded in death by his father and mother; wife Vernita; son Greg; twin brother Bob; sister Margaret O’Donnell; brothers and sisters-in-law Bud (Irene) Stuart, Art Stuart, Jack (Beverly) Stuart, Bill (Jan) Stuart; and grandson Benjamin Ronald Stuart. A Graveside Service will be held Friday, September 17, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the Riverside Cemetery, rural Hillsboro. Following will be a time for celebration and fellowship at the United Parish UMC-UCC Church in Hillsboro. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wildeman-Boulger Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
