Ruth A. Henka

Ruth Alvina Henka, 102, passed away Saturday, August 28, 2021 at the Hillsboro Long Term Care Center, Hillsboro, ND.
Ruth was born January 5, 1919 to Carl and Petra (Grande) Hage in Halstad, ND. She went through her schooling at a young age only speaking Norwegian for a while before she could learn English. Ruth Later received her teaching certificate and taught for 3 years. She married John Henka on May 13, 1942 in Hillsboro. After that she stayed busy at home raising her 3 children, Dianne, James, and Faith. Ruth’s hobbies included doing Brazilian embroidery and other artistic hand crafts. She was always known for her baking, especially her pies. Her famous pie was apple but she always had plenty of peach, blueberry, and many more saved in the freezer. Ruth was also a part of the Herberg Homemakers club and was active at the Halstad Lutheran church in the lady’s aid and circle. She loved spending time with her family and friends and will be missed by so many.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents; and 1 sister and 4 brothers.
Ruth is survived by her children, Dianne Kuehny, James (Pat) Henka, Faith (John) Halvorson; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews

Our family grieves at Ruth’s passing but celebrate a wonderful life. My dad had so many fond memories of his cousin Ruth and John. We loved the Grande Dame of the Hage family.
