Shirley Volness, 95, Fargo, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2025, in her home surrounded by her family.

Shirley was born on October 10, 1929, in Fargo, ND to Ted and Selma (Ohnstad) Ziegler. She began her life in Argusville, ND, before her family settled in Perley, MN for cattle farming.

She married Elmer Volness on December 17, 1947, in Georgetown, MN and welcomed four children as their family grew. They opened and owned Elmer’s Candy Service until their retirement.

Shirley was an active, long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fargo and participated in many church circles and activities.

She is survived by her children, LaVonne (James) Eisenlohr, New York Mills, MN; Michael (Becky) Volness, Fargo, ND; Roger (Carolanne) Volness, Fargo, ND; and Dean (Linda Jo) Volness, Moorhead, MN; brother, Alan Ziegler; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer; and sister, Marjeane.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Grace Lutheran Church, 821 5th Ave S Fargo, ND 58103 or HIA Hospice.
