Thomas Hilt
June 11, 1942 – July 15, 2025
Thomas Anthony Hilt, of Fargo, ND and Tucson, AZ, passed away peacefully in Fargo on July 15, 2025. Born in Webster, South Dakota, Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sheila Hilt, and their three sons: Paul Hilt (children Elise and Jack), Jim Hilt and his husband Derek Brown (son Owen), and Mark Hilt and his wife Elizabeth (children Chloe, Adrianna, Camden, Emmy and Coby).
Tom loved the simple joys of life—especially a well-struck golf shot, a new travel adventure, and dreaming about the backyard swimming pool he never quite got around to building. His quick wit, steady presence, and generous spirit left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.
He will be remembered most for the love he gave freely and the pride he took in his family.
At Tom’s request, there will be no long obituary or formal services. In lieu of flowers or other remembrances, the family invites donations to The Hospice House at the Sanford Hospital Foundation in Fargo to honor of a life well lived.

My deepest condolences go out to you all. I was proud to call him my father in law. He had the biggest heart and I could just see how much he loved everyone, especially Sheila. He will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure to know and love him.
I worked with Tom many years ago at Community First. He was the nicest person to work for! He cared so much for his employees. He was also very funny! Sending my condolences to Sheila and his family. May they find comfort in his memories.
So sorry to hear about Tom. He was a great guy. Thoughts and prayers are with you, Sheila.
As a neighbor in my younger years I became close friends with Paul and Tom and Sheila were very big influences on me and those younger years. He is always been a role model and a strong family leader to that family. The world lost a great man with his passing. My heart pours out to Sheila, and the entire family. Jesus himself will be standing at the gates of heaven to welcome him with open arms there’s no question about that.
My dear Sheila,Paul,Jim and Mark!

Sheila, I am sorry to learn of your loss. I knew Tom a bit and remember with great fondness The poker games we all enjoyed. I always found Tom to be a gentle and kind soul, blessed with wit, good humor and an abiding respect for his fellow man. The world could use a whole lot more people like Tom. Sheila and Family,
Karen and I are sorry to hear of your loss. Tom was such a nice guy and I enjoyed knowing and working with him at Community First and all the way back to our days together in First Bank System. I always enjoyed breakfast with him for the many years that we got together in SaddleBrooke. He always seemed to enjoy hearing about the many friendships that we shared
after working together all those years! Please accept our sincere sympathy and we know that you have great memories of family times together!
Our best to you!
My Uncle Tom had a warm gentle presence that made me feel at ease every time I came to visit. Even though I hadn’t seen him in a while, I will always remember him fondly. His kindness and quiet strength left a lasting mark on my heart. He will be so deeply missed.
Having known Tom & Sheila since being neighbors in St. Louis Park – we have continued our friendship for 50+ years. Tom was a “cool dude” calm and collected, his demeanor always easygoing and sociable . Very intelligent with a sharp wit and an easy laugh. Easy being around him and he will be missed. Thanks for the memories.
The world could use more people like Tom!
Our Sympathy, Thoughts and Prayers to you
Sheila, Paul, Jim, Mark and your families.
May Tom Rest in Peace in the arms of the Lord. Mike and Kathleen McNamara, Rapid City, SD 57701
