Yvonne "Vonnie" Anderson

Yvonne (Vonnie) Anderson passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at the Hillsboro Medical Center Hospital, at the age of 89.

Vonnie was born on December 17, 1936, the daughter of Michael and Alvina (Kubitza) Koval near rural Hillsboro. She attended and graduated from Caledonia School.

Yvonne was united in marriage to Donald Anderson on October 30, 1954, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and they made their home in the Hillsboro area. Donald passed away March 4. 2002.

Vonnie was an active member of the Christian Mothers Altar Society and served as president and group leader. She also taught CCD at the St. Rose Parish. Vonnie worked as a waitress for years and spent 30 years as a CNA at the Hillsboro Nursing Home until her retirement. She was also a proud member of the Hillsboro VFW Auxiliary and Hillsboro Senior Citizens.

Yvonne is survived by her two daughters – Dawn (Duane) Fried of Hettinger, ND; and Jennifer (Robert) Jacobson of Hillsboro, her three sons – Jeffrey (Kathy) Anderson of Fargo, ND; Robert (Charlotte) Anderson of Mayville, ND; and Kevin (Priscilla) Anderson of Underwood, IA; her beloved 22 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her son, Terry Anderson; her grandson, Ross Anderson; her parents – Mike and Alvina Koval; her 10 sisters – Florance Wika, Theresa Haugen, Alvina Floberg, Margaret Grzybowski, Eleanor Wika, Frances Holzkamm, Barbara Johnson, Rose Koval, Mary Olerich, and Leona Barnard; her three brothers – Leroy Koval, Robert Koval, and Francis Koval; and several nieces and nephews.

Vonnie found great joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing bingo, gardening, and an occasional trip on the bus with her friends to the casino.

FUNERAL MASS: 1 PM Saturday, April 11, 2026, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hillsboro – with a visitation one hour prior

PRAYER SERVICE: 7 PM Friday, April 10, 2026, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hillsboro – with a visitation beginning at 5 PM

BURIAL: St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery in Hillsboro

  5. Aunt Vonnie did so much for our family after our Mom died. She helped with all of our high school graduations and my wedding reception. She was a wonderful lady. She will be greatly missed. My sympathy to you all.

  6. Aunt Vonnie…..the spirited woman, the one who held everyone together. She kept the Koval memories alive for all of us. The sister my mom, Mary, was closest to.The best Aunt, the one I could call for recipes, to learn more family history, to check in, to always smile & laugh. She loved her family immensely, was very proud of all of her kids and grandkids. Growing up with her in my life for 62 years, has blessed me with memories I will continue to carry forever. I loved her very much. Forever grateful. She will be missed terribly.
