Shawn Hegvik

shawn hegvik
Shawn Hegvik, age 46, left us too soon, on April 14th in Denver, Colorado. His family and many groups of friends will miss him dearly. Shawn is famous for his laugh, his big heart, his love of teasing people and fabulous wit. You could not hang out with Shawn without it being a good time. He grew up in Glenfield, ND and had a terrific childhood with his gang of friends who were always biking, playing sports, and having fun. Shawn was always very active and he loved the outdoors. Shawn played baseball for NDSU and during his time there, his fan club of friends increased quite a bit. As the good-looking, funny, talented guy, people were drawn to him. He was always kind and approachable- he was the kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his back. After college, Shawn was a car salesman, a bartender, a blackjack dealer, and always ambitious to do well in life. He was a hard worker, a smart guy, and he didn’t mind having several jobs and juggling a busy schedule- and he made more friends wherever he went! In 2005, he married Ursula (Hermanson) and they enjoyed many happy years together. In 2007, he was offered a job with Border States Electric in Fargo. He loved this job, was very successful and BSE became extended family for him. In 2019, he accepted a different opportunity in Denver, CO. He made a another group of terrific friends and co-workers in Colorado. Outside of work, he enjoyed playing with his boys, Oliver (age 11) and Dexter (age 9). His sweet boys will miss his advice for throwing a curveball, going on fishing trips and hiking adventures, and so much more. Shawn loved his boys immensely and being a dad was definitely his favorite role in life. He was also a terrific uncle, and we loved going to Sioux Falls to see his sister Ericka, her husband Jay and their 3 girls: Brynn, Taryn and Bergen. He would often give the girls silver coins for birthdays and Christmas, something Shawn was known for to many of his friends! We always enjoyed getting the cousins together and we have many fond memories of family gatherings, always with many laughs! Shawn’s parents, Rick and Patty Hegvik, will miss their wonderful son- specifically his smiles and their almost daily conversations. Most of these were centered around the boys, family and friends. Shawn loved golf and is famous for making the Fargo news discovering he had gotten a hole-in-one on a par 4 at Forrest Hills golf course outside of Detroit Lakes. He’s also famous for losing his wallet or his keys, and he definitely went through more than his fair share of sunglasses in life. Shawn is survived by his grandfather Alton Hegvik (Dorothy Gordon) and grandmother Estella Kamrud, along with many aunts, uncles and loving cousins. Grandparents Janice Hegvik, Irvin Kamrud and aunt Sharon Haakenson preceded him in death. A celebration of life party with be arranged as soon as possible. Our family looks forward to sharing stories and celebrating Shawn together as soon as we can.

  7. More than once I chided new bartenders for throwing Shawn’s checkbook in the lost and found bin with the other crap. We had a special place behind the bar for it to wait for him to pick it up. And we always had a chuckle about it. Just like his checkbook, I know God has a special place set aside for Shawn in that big Lost and Found in the sky. Until we see him again, he will be missed.
