Adeline Birdelia Martinson was born May 17, 1911 in Blabon, ND to Ole A. and Anna Randine (Heglie) Martinson. She was raised in Blabon and graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1929, then earned her cosmetology license at Fargo Hair Dressing Academy. She married Leonard E. Monear on August 26, 1934 and they lived in Hope, ND where he owned the Gamble hardware store and Adeline had an in-home beauty shop. In early 1944 they moved to Stirum, ND where Len worked as a telegrapher for the Northern Pacific Railroad. After WWII Adeline moved her family five times in less than three years as Len was transferred by the NP Railroad. In 1947 they purchased a neighborhood grocery store in south Fargo. After selling the Belmont Grocery, Adeline worked for nearly twenty years as a cashier at Sears counting money and checks daily and getting deposits ready to bank. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Eagles Auxiliary.
In 1971 Adeline and Len retired to their cottage on Big Pine Lake and wintered as snowbirds in their RV for twenty-five years, usually in Arizona where she enjoyed square and round dancing, hiking, biking, crossword puzzles, scrabble and playing cards. They spent two winters in Texas and Florida and traveled to all fifty states collecting a special rock from each. In later years, she often wintered with friends in south Fargo and lived one year in the Kinder House apartments near Bethany Homes.
