Albert passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2004, at the Hillsboro Medical Center Hospital at the age of 87. Albert was born on June 30, 1917, in rural Portland, ND, the son of Lars and Marie (Nelson) Oie. He was baptized and confirmed at Bang Lutheran Church near Portland. He grew up in this area and attended school at the Primrose and Roseville Schools. After his schooling he began working on the family farm. In 1932 he moved to the Hillsboro area. Albert proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1944 until 1946. After his discharge he returned to the area and farmed his entire life, retiring in 1979. Albert was a member of the Norway Lutheran Church and served on the church council for many years. He also served on the board of directors for the Farmer Union Oil Company in Cummings as well as the Taft Farmers Elevator. Albert was also very active in the Hillsboro American Legion and VFW Club over the years serving as post commander. The past few years, Albert had been a resident of the Hillsboro Nursing Home. Albert is survived by his sisters, Bertha Thompson of Fargo, ND; and Lillian Thompson of Hillsboro, ND; and his brother, Norman (Marlene) Oie of Cummings, ND. He is also survived by his 9 nieces and nephews; his 13 great nieces and nephews; and his 10 great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Leonard, and one infant great nephew.
