Obituary

Alice Louise (Raatz) Pedersen, 92, went to her heavenly home on February 20, 2019 surrounded by the love of her family.

Alice was born to Emil and Louise (Pooch) Raatz on the farm outside of Verona, ND. She was the baby sis to her 2 brothers and 3 sisters, a proud graduate of Verona High School class of 1944. She moved to Fargo to attend Interstate Business College and was employed at Manchester Biscuit Co. Alice married Paul Pedersen on June 20, 1946. The couple spent most of their married life and raised four daughters in the Hawthorne area of Fargo, ND.

Alice was a homemaker while her girls were growing up. Her home was welcoming, full of hugs, smiles, homemade meals, cookies, and peanut butter rolls. Through the years, she also spent some time working at Herbst lunch counter, selling Avon, was a banquet server, a hostess at Wendy’s and the VP of the family business. She earned the title of ‘The Mint Lady’ from her 23 years of service during the lunchtime at McDonalds on Main. Alice greeted her customers with a caring smile and warm welcome. She made sure before they left they had a mint from her apron pocket. Alice appreciated the friendship of her coworkers and would often say they kept her young. She retired at the age of 86.

Alice was a member of First Lutheran Church and an active member of Royal Neighbors of America. She was a lifelong resident of North Dakota. She loved to be outside working in her yard and garden where she would listen for the wrens and watch for butterflies and squirrels. She enjoyed her neighbors and was always available to chat. Alice lived to care for and make people happy. She was proud of her family and loved them all dearly. She made many memories while teaching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren how to make cookies, play cards, hunt for worms, roller skate in the basement and just by cheering them on.

Alice is preceded in death by her husband, a grandson, her parents and siblings.
She is survived by and will be greatly missed by her daughters, Donna (Chuck) Kirkevold, Glenpool, OK, Susan Pedersen, Fargo, Laurie (David) Hanson, Pelican Rapids, MN, Darcie (Joe) Malchow, Medina, MN, 6 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

The celebration of her life will be on Saturday March 2 at 2pm at the Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center, Fargo. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service. Private Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND.

Thank you to all who cared for and visited with Alice. Your kindness eased our long days and nights. Remember to always be joyful, helpful to others and never stop praying.

I worked with Alice for 2 years at McDonald’s on Main Ave between 2001 and 2003. She was always a happy and sunny person, and brought life to the room. My condolences.

So sorry. I will miss all my visits with her when I come home. She made my days at work the best. We shared the month of August for birthdays. Again I’m so sorry. My prayers are with the family at this time.

I lived next to Alice and Paul on south 7th Street. Both were kind and loving people. I loved being their neighbor. I was just thinking of Alice the other day and then saw that she passed. I know that you will all miss her greatly but will have such wonderful memories to celebrate her life.

I remember when Eldean introduced us years ago. We have been friends through the years since then, but I neglected to see Alice’s new home. Remember I’m 96 years old, Lois Thompson Minch. I remember Alice was always cheerful and happy.

Alice, you were a large part of my residency in Fargo. Always loved coming to McDonalds for lunches, no matter what part of town I was working in. You will be missed by so many people – prayers for the family. I’ve been thinking about Alice quite a bit for the last couple months, hoping for a chance to get to Fargo again and visit. Sometimes things just don’t go as planned. RIP Alice.
