Alice Shiels

Alice Shiels, 90, Bethany Homes, Fargo, died Wednesday, August 13, 2003, in the nursing home. Alice L. Early was born December 12, 1912, in Fargo, ND, the daughter of John and Alice (Collins) Early. She grew up in Fargo, graduating from Sacred Heart Academy. She then moved to New York City to study dance. She lived in New York for a couple of years and then returned to Fargo where she operated a dance studio, Early School of Dance, located above the Roxy Theatre on Broadway. During World War II, she moved to California to work in a defense plant for the war effort. She was married to Henry W. ?Static? Shiels in Santa Barbara, CA, during World War II. They returned to Fargo following the war, and she operated a dance studio until 1965. Mr. Shiels died in 1977. Alice was a volunteer at Fargo Nursing Home, now named Rosewood on Broadway, for many years. She is survived by two sons, Stephen (Kathy), Fargo, and Michael (Kathie), Naples, FL; and two granddaughters, Danielle and Ashley. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers, and one sister. Funeral Mass will be 2:00 p.m. Monday in Church of the Holy Spirit, Fargo. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 p.m. in Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Fargo. Arrangements by Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo.
