Alphons "Alfie" Offermann, 79, Kindred, ND died on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at Villa Maria in Fargo, ND after a long battle with cancer. Alfie was born on the family farm near Sheldon, ND on March 3, 1930 to Pierre and Josephine (Delagardel) Offermann. Later the family moved to Enderlin, ND where he finished his schooling. He joined the US Navy on March 8, 1949 and served in the Korean Conflict. He said he traveled around the world many times then, and didn't need to travel after that. He married Dorothy Buchholz on June 11, 1955 and they moved to Kindred, ND. He worked as a mechanic for Rich Garage for several years before going to work for Cass County Electric Company (REA at that time). He married Shirley Severson on May 22, 1976 at Norman Lutheran Church, Kindred. After his retirement from CCEC, he was busy in his woodshop making anything and everything. He made flag cases, picture frames, shelves, cupboards for his home, planters, and did scroll work. He is survived by his wife: Shirley; children: Anita (David) Dueis, Lake Park MN, Michael (DeeDee) Offermann, Moorhead MN, Dale (Holly) Offermann, Arlington Wa, Brenda (Barry) Roesler, Moorhead MN, James (Sue) Offermann, West Fargo ND; two step-daughters: Brenda (Paul) Benedict, Linton, ND, Jamie (Bradley) Carlson Anchorage, Alaska; grandchildren: Christine (Mike) Nolen, West Fargo ND, Kelsey and Judd Roesler, Moorhead MN, Erin and Rylee Offermann, West Fargo, ND; Tracy (Jody) Mulder, Valley City, ND, Stephanie Benedict, Minot, ND, Mandi (Joseph) Smith, Anchorage, AK, James (Maretta) Benedict, Hazelton, ND; great grandchildren: Ty Mcpherson, West Fargo ND, Ann Smith, Anchorage, AK, Anastasia Benedict, Hazelton, ND, and Cameron, Jackson, Shelby, Brenna Mulder, Valley City, ND; brother: Herb (Jean) Offermann, Sandpoint, ID; brother-in-law: Pete Thompson, Sandpoint, ID; sisters-in law: Lil Offerman, Bismarck ND, and Darlene Offermann, Sheldon, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents: Pierre and Josephine; brothers: Theodore (infant), Jacob, Robert; and sisters: Mary Hejhal and Adell Thompson. Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association. Visitation will be on Monday, May 25, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Fredrikson Funeral Chapel, Kindred, ND and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. The Funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Fredrikson Funeral Chapel, Kindred, ND.
