Ann Marie Berg

ann marie berg
Ann Marie (Lang) Berg of Fargo, ND died Wednesday, February 12th from complications of Alzheimer ’s disease. She was 86 years old. Born in Perth, ND to Lawrence & Katherine Lang, Ann grew up with her 3 siblings in Bisbee, ND. (Mom & her younger sister played jokes on their older sister, i.e. throwing a chicken through her bedroom window.) Upon graduating from Bisbee High School in 1951, Ann went to work in Devil’s Lake, ND as a telephone operator. (Growing up Mom always told us kids not to give out private information on the phone because somebody might be listening in. Hmmmmm.) In 1955, Ann and a group of women moved to Fargo, ND looking for life’s opportunities. Landing a job at Blue Cross Blue Shield, she got into a car accident and was pursued by the manager of a local auto body shop. Jim & Ann were married on January 9th, 1960 and traveled to Las Vegas, NV in a car with no heater for their honeymoon. Ann brought up 3 children, helped with the bookkeeping for the family business, worked the elections, took on secretarial duties for 5 years at Faith United Methodist Church, and enjoyed summers at the lake cabin. The last 50 years, she always had a poodle by her side. Some of Ann’s proudest moments was playing half-court basketball in High School, living independently in her 20’s, she & her younger sister having tickets to the Buddy Holly concert that turned into a memorial concert, and taking on the school system when her oldest son wasn’t treated fairly. Ann is survived by her three children, Karl (Carol) Berg of Fargo, ND, Kevin Berg of Fargo, ND, Katherine Berg of Fargo, ND, grandchildren Amy Berg of Philadelphia, PA, Jenna Berg of Fargo, ND, and her poodle Charlotte Ann. Ann is preceded in death by her husband Jim Berg, her siblings, Stella Phillips, Irene Church, Duane Lang, and 3 poodles, Cindy, Kalie, Kelsea. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fargo. Visitation will continue from 10-11 a.m., followed by a funeral at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 22, at the church.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Sorry to hear about this – Ann was great as one of the moms in the neighborhood growing up in North Fargo – great baker of peanut butter cookies – a Minnesota Twins fan and always had watermelon for us at the last day of school – she will be missed!

  2. Our deepest sympathy to your families. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Kathy Iverson for United Electric Paint.

  3. I have so many wonderful memories of Ann as the Berg house was my second home growing up. She always mixed whole & skim milk to give me “2%” and burned my toast because she knew I liked it that way. She’s put on her lipstick and give Katherine and I a kiss mark on our cheek for whatever it was we were playing. She’d sing when she saw me…”Mary Lou had the flu in the zoo”. My heartfelt condolences to Karl, Kevin & Katherine and the their family.

  4. I remember Ann Marie when I worked at the veterinary clinic where she took her poodles. She was such a kind, wonderful lady who loved her poodles, and we all loved Ann Marie!

  5. Karl, Kevin & Katherine
I’m very sorry to hear about your mom. I have many fond memories of our visits at the lake. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Take care.
