Arnfred J. "Arnie" Gronbeck, 88 of West Fargo, died Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at Elim Care Center in Fargo.

He was united in marriage to Doris Sivertson on June 26, 1943.  He entered the Navy in November of 1943, serving on the USS Lamar in the South Pacific.  He also served aboard a troop transport and took part in 5 invasions and 3 reinforcements.  He was honorably discharged in July of 1946.  Following his military service, Arnie was employed by Branick Manufacturing in Fargo.  He also served as Mayor of Leonard for 8 years.  He loved to raise a big garden and go into the sand hills to cut firewood.

Arnie was a life member of the West Fargo VFW and also was a member of the American Legion in Leonard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lucille Bartholomay, Eunice Nygard; brothers, Frank Gronbeck and Leroy Gronbeck; sons-in-law, Don Wiskur, Don Jones and Brad Mueller.

Arnie is survived by his wife, Doris of West Fargo; children, Carol Wiskur of West Fargo, ND, Marlowe (Ava) Gronbeck of Meriden, CT, Gloria (Steve) Kent of West Fargo, ND, Beverly (Alan) Plummer of Moorhead, MN, Shirley (Lonnie) Rodacker of Fargo, ND and Amenia, ND, Wayne (DeAnn) Gronbeck of West Fargo, ND; 17 grandchildren; 2 step grandsons; 27 great-grandchildren; 5 step great-grandchildren; brothers, Ernie Gronbeck of Fargo, ND, Arnold (Darlene) Gronbeck of Moorhead, MN and by his sister, Gladys Walaker of Fargo.
