Beatrice Bengs, 92, died on April 13, 2021 at her home under the care of hospice. Beatrice Heger was born on April 17, 1928, in Arthur, North Dakota, the daughter of Emil Heger & Louise (Marek) Heger. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Arthur, ND. As a young girl, she started work in Fargo and on her weekends, she visited Arthur and Casselton. She met her husband Henry Lewis Johnson in Casselton and they were married October 3rd, 1947. The newlyweds moved to Amenia, ND and opened “The Teenie Shop”. This marriage brought them six children. The family then moved to Rockford, IL in the summer of 1955. Henry passed away August 8th, 1961 and Beatrice moved her family back to Fargo. As a single mom, she raised her family doing housekeeping and was detail-oriented. After being a widow for thirteen years and dedicated to her family, a neighbor talked her into attending a single dance at the Moose Lodge, where she met her husband, Alvin Bengs from Thompson, ND. They married on May 18th, 1973 and Alvin moved his new bride to his dairy farm and built her a brand new home in Thompson. This happy union ended with a traumatic brain injury to Alvin. Sadly, Alvin passed away a year and a half later on May 29th, 1978. Beatrice worked as a baker at Engen’s Bakery in Northwood and also worked at the TKE House at UND. At the encouragement of her children, she moved back to Fargo where she was a baker for Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. In her retirement days, she enjoyed flower gardening and crocheting afghans for family and friends. She enjoyed listening to Danny O’Donnell and Molly B polka music. Beatrice was preceded in death by her two husbands, Henry and Alvin; infant son Kenneth; her parents; her sister, Eleanor Lautt; daughter-in-law Gail; and brother-in-law Eugene; and great-granddaughter April. Beatrice leaves behind her children Betty (Chuck) Solly, Duane (Linda) Johnson, Karen (Lydell) Thorson, Donald Johnson, Gary (Ranea) Johnson; her sister Violet Johnson; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; as well as present and passed brothers and sisters-in-law. There will be a funeral service at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 17th, 2021 with visitation one hour prior at Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center, Fargo. Burial will be held at Casselton Cemetery in Casselton, ND.
