Bert Hilber

Bert Hilber passed away June 22, 2007 in Park Rapids, MN with his daughters at his side. Born in a house on 4th street North he was the fifth of seven. Bert was a graduate and letterman from Fargo High. He always said the high pointof his life was his marriage to Mitzi Bidaux on May 30, 1941. Their marriage lasted 65 years. He went to electronic school in Colorado as part of the war effort. Sales became his profession when he moved to Minneapolis where he was the regional manager for JR Watkins. In 1956, he moved his business and family back to his beloved Fargo. On weekends you would find Bert and Mitzi dancing at the American Legion, Eagles, Elks, Moose, and the Knights of Columbus. Golf was his passion in life, and his hole in one was on of his proudest moments. At age 50, Bert made significant changes in his life. He reached for and achieved sobriety and quit smoking. These changes laid the groundwork to start Hilber Chemical Co. During this time, he started public speaking about the road to recovery and sponsored others in the program. At age 72, he sold his business. In these later years, he became very active in Stephen Ministry, Meals on Wheels, and fund raising for St Mary?s with Father Hughes. He always considered Father Hughes a special friend. He enjoyed giving his time to others. During retirement, he also was asked to do commercials and pose for advertisement spots for local businesses. Bert is survived by his children, Bert (Barbara), Jamestown, ND, Ralph (Christine), Sacramento, CA, Paul (Kathy),Charles Town, WV, Keith Hilber, San Jon, NM, Margo (Randy) Bernardy, Fargo, ND, Lynette Hilber, Park Rapids, MN; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and his sister, Betty Lou. Bert was preceded in death by his wife Mitzi, parents, and other siblings.
