Bertha V. Nelson, 97, Fargo, died Monday, June 23, 2003, at Elim Care Center, Fargo. Bertha V. Nelson was born in Hitterdal, Minnesota, on December 3, 1905. She grew up and graduated from school there. She attended Moorhead State Teachers College in Moorhead for one year and taught in a rural school near Twin Valley for one year. She moved to St. Paul where she worked at various jobs. After the war broke out in 1941 she worked for Northwest Airlines at the Holeman Field Modification Center. She worked on modification of bombers for two years and seven months. In 1953 she moved to Fargo, North Dakota, where she worked in various nursing homes until 1962 when she began working with her son and his family in small rest homes where they cared for elderly and disabled residents. She continued working until the age of eighty when she moved into the Fargo High Rise where she lived until going to the Elim Nursing Home. She is survived by one son, Charles (Janine) of Davenport, North Dakota; four grandchildren, Mrs. Les (Jennifer) Rheault, Fargo, John, West Fargo, Mrs. Jim (Jayne) Arabonos, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Mike, Fargo; and five great grandchildren. She has one surviving sister, Margaret Moe, Sunnyside Nursing Home in Lake Park, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by three brothers and seven sisters as well as one grandson. Funeral: Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Elim Lutheran Church, Fargo. Visitation: Wednesday from 12-1 p.m. in Elim Lutheran Church, Fargo. Burial: Salem East Cemetery, Hitterdal.
