Betty Brandt

Betty L. Brandt, also known as Betty L. Kreft, 84, Fargo, ND, formerly of Plaza, ND and Minot, ND passed away Tuesday, April 3rd at Bethany Retirement Center in Fargo surrounded by family.
Betty L. Ness was born on April 16, 1933, the daughter of Ole and Ragna (Thompson) Ness, in Blaisdell, ND. The youngest of 12 children, she was raised on a farm near Blaisdell. Betty traveled to Plaza for school and graduated from Plaza High School in 1951. After high school, she worked as a bookkeeper in Minot.
Betty married Kenneth Kreft October 24, 1953. They had five children: Stephen, Kim, Leslie, Todd, and Timothy. They made their home on a farm south of Plaza. Betty was a hard-working farm wife who could be found hauling bales or helping wherever she was needed. She was an amazing cook, who provided meals for family and friends near and far, sometimes at a moment’s notice. Kenneth passed away March 29, 1984 on the family farm.
Betty married Myron Brandt December 26, 1987 and they made their home in Ryder, until moving to Minot in 1993. Myron passed away March 25, 2016.
Betty was a wonderful, selfless mom, grandma and great grandma. She had an infectious smile and laugh and enjoyed spending time visiting and storytelling with family and friends. Betty was physically active, and loved spending time walking, gardening and picnicking with her grandkids. To celebrate her 75th birthday, her family spent a week in Glacier National Park hiking and white-water rafting. Betty also loved to dance and she was delighted that this love led her to meet both of her husbands.
Betty is survived by children, Kim (Mike) Jones, Dickinson, Leslie (Lynne) Kreft, St. Cloud, MN, Todd (Heng) Kreft, Brooklyn Park, MN, Timothy (Annette) Kreft, Horace, ND; Grandchildren, Kristy (Jeff) Shirley, Jeremy Jones, Joey (Jessica Deaver) Kreft, Casey (Brittany) Kreft, Jasmine (John Oleksik) Kreft, Isaac Kreft; and Great-granddaughter, Elnora Shirley. Step-children: Dennis (Marlene) Brandt, Debra (Jerald) Stafslien, Denice (Paul) Downs, Darin (Lana) Brandt, Daniel (Andrea) Brandt; and families. Also survived by sister-in-law, Marion Ness and brother-in-law, Odin Tranby, and many nieces, and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; Ole and Ragna (Thompson) Ness; husbands Kenneth and Myron; son Stephen; and brothers and sisters: Melvin, Gerda, Rachel, Helmer, Olga, Thorvald, Marvin, Helen, Arthur, John and Doris, and their respective spouses.
Memorial services will take place Friday, April 20, 2018, 11 AM at Bread of Life church in Minot, ND. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Great Plains Food Bank Backpack Program or the ND Special Olympics.

My heart is so heavy with the loss of Aunt Betty, but joyful she is with the Lord and her family in heaven, including my mom. My memories of being on the farm with all the Krefts is so sweet. I can still smell the bread in the kitchen! I will continue my prayers to bring all my cousins comfort as they deal with this loss. My love to all of you.
