Betty Goick

Betty Goick, 83, Fargo, passed away December 20, 2014 in a Fargo nursing home.  Betty Lorraine Brese was born November 7, 1931 to Alexander and Mary (Maier) Brese, in Laurel, Montana.  She was raised and educated in Laurel, graduating from Laurel High School in 1949.

Betty married S.C. “Jack” Goick on January 25 , 1950.  Together they had four children and lived in Great Falls, Havre, Miles City and Billings, Montana before moving to the Fargo-Moorhead community in 1960.  When the marriage ended, Betty put herself through business college while working nights to support her family.  She then worked for Northern Improvement Company for many years as office secretary/receptionist.  In her hey-day, Betty was an avid bowler, receiving numerous trophies, pins and patches for her high games and averages.  She also took up oil painting, knitting and was proficient in doing arts and craft projects. At age 41, Betty had a debilitating stroke which left her right side paralyzed.  She went through rehabilitation in Fergus Falls, Minnesota and returned to Fargo, where she lived in her own apartment until 2009, when failing health necessitated a move to a nursing facility.

She was an amazing woman who had a strong will.  Her faith in God was unshakable; and she made sure her children received a Christian upbringing.  In later years she became a member of First Lutheran Church.  She was very appreciative of every act of kindness extended to her, always saying “God Bless you”.  Known for her bubbly personality, her nickname was “Bubbles”.  Her favorite expressions (no matter what life dealt her) were: “I’m happy!” and “Uff-da!”  Betty will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.  A special thank you to the staffs of Essentia Critical Care Unit, Manor Care, and Hospice Red River Valley for the loving care given to our mother.

Betty is survived by: children: Linda (Gene) Kaseman, Minot; Douglas (Sharon) Goick, Concord, North Carolina; Bonnie Rheault, West Fargo, brother: Lawrence (Nell) Brese, Chipley, Florida; sisters: Scharlotte (David) Ruff, Billings, Montana; Bonnie (Hugh) Baird, Worland, Wyoming; Mary Lynn (Dennis) Wagner, Laurel, Montana; 7 grandchildren: William, Nicole, April, Jamie, Tressa, Andrea and Jessica; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by: her parents; brother, James Brese; and daughter, Jennifer Jendro.
