Betty Jane Bergseth Rezac

betty jane bergseth rezac
God called Betty home in the early hours of August 23, 2019. She was 80 years old. Betty was born January 5, 1939 to Milton and Magdalene (Harles) Bergseth. She graduated from Shanley High School then attended the University of North Dakota. She returned to Fargo after one year to be with her sweetheart, Leonard Rezac. A match made in heaven, they married on October 25, 1958 and made their home in north Fargo. Children were always at the forefront of Betty’s life and from an early age she said she wanted to “get married and have a bunch of kids.” God blessed Betty and Leonard with five wonderful children of their own but feeling called to do more, they opened their hearts and home to foster babies. Over the course of ten years Betty, and her family, cared for a total of 86 foster babies. In doing so, Betty got her wish… five of her own plus 86 foster babies is certainly “a bunch.” In September 1983, her beloved Leonard passed away. With one child still at home, Betty went back to school and earned a degree in medical terminology. In addition to raising a family and fostering children, Betty worked for Bergseth Bros., Gate City Bank, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield. After retiring from BC/BS, she returned to what she loved most, working with children, and took a job as a bus aide for Head Start. She was active in her church and community as well as an avid knitter and crocheter, creating and donating countless baby blankets. In 2012 Betty was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. She moved to Memory Care at Touchmark in 2016 and quickly became a favorite with many staff members. Betty leaves behind a wonderful legacy in her children: Debbie Kelly, Diane (Greg) Lorenz, Tim Rezac, Kevin (Pam) Rezac, and Kelly (Lori) Rezac; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and siblings Rick (Lois) Bergseth, Lorr (Al) Evert, and Cindy Sund. She has been welcomed in Heaven by Leonard, her parents, son-in-law Kevin Kelly and her sister Joanne. 1. Debbie,
I’m sorry about your mother’s passing. My father had Alzheimer’s disease and it’s hard to watch a person you love slowly become a shell of their former self. My condolences to you and the rest of your family.
    Respectfully,
    Don Dumais

  2. I felt blessed being a member of both St Mary’s and Holy Spirit with Betty. She is a joyous. caring person. We now look to Betty from above to help guide us. A very special lady.

  3. Debbie.

I’m so very sorry in the loss of your mom. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.

    Tracey from NDSU
