Betty Shirley

Betty Jane (Morris) Shirley, 82 of Fargo, ND went to be with our Heavenly Father on August 16, 2018. Betty was born January 10, 1936 in Norma, ND to Clarence and Bertha (Brekhus) Morris. She was the oldest of six children. In 1967, she was united in marriage to her wonderful husband Robert Shirley in Carrington, ND. They moved to Fargo, where they were delighted to welcome a son and a daughter into their family. They moved to Bismarck in 1975, where they lived for many years and raised their children. Betty liked to paint and was a member of Bismarck Tole Painting club. After retirement, they moved back to Fargo to be near family. For many years they enjoyed their cabin on Lake Melissa, Detroit Lakes. They spent many happy summers and created fond memories there. Betty loved to travel. Some of her favorite destinations included Arizona and Florida, where she could spend time walking on the beach. Fishing was a newfound passion of hers in recent years (discovered after winning the friendly competition at a Lake of Woods resort for the largest fish caught!). She is survived by her husband Robert (Bob), son Troy (Nancy) Shirley, daughter Holly (Doug) Roehrich, and 5 grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Vi Gross of Fargo, ND, Deloris Tarbell of Lake Havasu, AZ, LaVonne (Roy) Black of Fargo, ND and brothers Jerome (Karen) Morris of Fessenden, ND and Tim Morris of Fargo, ND, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Bertha Morris, her brothers-in-law Ed Gross and Warren Tarbell.
