Brett Jonas, age 41, our miracle and beloved son, of Detroit Lakes, MN passed away, Friday, November 25, 2016 at Sanford Palliative Care in Fargo. Brett was born in Grand Forks, ND on December 6, 1974. He graduated from Detroit Lakes High School and worked as a ceramic contractor for several companies in the Detroit Lakes area. He loved to fish and hunt and was always looking forward to one or the other. He is survived by his parents: Herb and Bonita “Bonnie” (Christesen) Jonas of Detroit Lakes. They often worried about Brett being alone as an only child, but those worries subsided as Brett grew into an amazing man that had many friends and became part of many of their families. VISITATION: from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday, November 28, 2016 at the First Methodist Church in Detroit Lakes, MN FUNERAL SERVICE: 1:00 pm Monday, November 28, 2016 at First Methodist Church; 885 Pembina Trail, Detroit Lakes, MN.

  5. Brett was a great guy. Worked with him at WeFest. Knew how to live life to the fullest and be a good leader. Always a part of the crew. Heaven gained a gem too soon.

  6. I have been lucky to have known Brett for many years and come to see him as a little brother as he and my brother Shane were good friends. Brett always had a smile on his face and would help anybody. Brett will be so missed by many people as he had have many friends and people who love him. Rest in peace my friend/brother.

  8. I am so sorry to hear of Brett’s passing. I didn’t know him only as a small child, but enjoyed babysitting him when you two had to work. He was a very good little boy. Always so hard to say goodbye. Cherish your memoies of Brett as you go through this difficult time.

  9. My heart felt condolences go out to Mr. and Mrs. Jonas for their loss. I worked with Brett over the years beginning in 1996 and he was always one of my favorite co-workers. He will be sorely missed. RIP Brett, my friend.

  12. I went to school with Brett from K-12. Last spring I had a chance to “catch up” and reminisce with him for a few hours for he was helping me finish a project. I cherished our conversations and he will be greatly missed!
    I will always remember Brett as a kind, laughing, and happy person.

  14. I am honored to have helped care for Brett on The Palliative Care unit during his time of need. His pain is gone and he’s resting peacefully in a beautiful place. God bless you all.

  26. I am so sorry to hear that you have lost a son. When I saw the name Jonas I wondered if it was the same one I remember from my childhood. My father had the 10th Street Grocery and you lived on 9th Avenue South, across from the O’Shea Apartments and the Paul Ryans. Your mother would always come out on the porch and call for Herbie. Only she had an accent and it sounded like Hoibie, Hoibie.

    I will be 74 next month and I remember those things so clearly, but I can’t remember what I did five minutes ago. My younger sister is Janelle (Hongess) Bohrod and my brother is Ed Hongess.
