Carolyn Helle Hirn Novak, 80, Fargo, formerly of Minot, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Essentia Health, Fargo.

Carolyn Helle was born November 10, 1931 to Bertha and Alfred Helle at Wildrose, North Dakota.  She graduated from Wildrose High School and attended Minot State College (University).  She taught 2 years in rural Williston.  In 1950 she married Arnold D. Hirn.  They lived in Minot, North Dakota and at the time of his death in 1968 he owned Arnie’s Pfaff Sewing Center.  She continued operating the business for 10 years before selling.  She married Steve F. Novak on April 30, 1977.  He passed away in 1987.  She was a bookkeeper at Minot Electric, Inc. until her retirement in 1997.  She moved to Fargo in 1999 to be closer to her daughters and grandchildren.

Carolyn was a devoted mother with an unwavering devotion to her faith.

She is survived by Celine (Jerome) Hennix, Marilyn Rogers and Beverly Hirn all of West Fargo, Sharon (Robert) Lawson of Pembroke, VA; grandchildren, James, Amy, Alex and Hunter; stepchildren, Joyce (Harlan) Severson, Irving (Kaye) Novak, Bonnie Haman; many step grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Charlotte Markus, Elsie Groth, Jan (Carl) Cooper, Mildred (Alan) Shoop; and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

    Your mother was so dear to my heart and the hearts of my family. The time we spent with all of you at your house in Minot we all remember so fondly, such wonderfully happy times. Your mom always welcomed our big family with her smile and open arms.

    .Dear Helle family, I was SO SORRY to see Carolyn had passed away. She was truly a SPECIAL lady & A DEAR FRIEND even though we only saw each other when you all got back to Wildrose. We are now living in an Apt.in Bottineau since last Dec. but miss the “old town”& were just back there Sat.when we celebrated Howard’s 90th birthday with about 100 people.
