Carroll Christie

carroll christie

Carroll went home to be with the Lord on July 19, 2011 at the Sanford Hospital in Fargo where she was surrounded by family and friends.

Carroll was born on November 27, 1940, in Wadena, MN, the daughter of Leonard and Eleverna (Markel) Gunkel. She attended school in Henning, MN. Carroll was united in marriage to Claude Christie on December 17, 1960 in Ottertail, MN. They made their home in Buxton, ND where they raised their two sons. They enjoyed many family trips - camping, swimming, and anything outdoors. Carroll opened her own Beauty Shop in her home in Buxton. Doing hair and nails was something Carroll was very passionate about. She also enjoyed spending time with six grandchildren and many adopted grandchildren. She loved packing up a large picnic basket full of lots of homemade cookies and having a picnic anywhere - even if it was just in the backyard. She also loved riding bike with her good friend, Dave. Carroll was always up to going to Henning with her niece, Brenda, to visit her mom. Carroll had a huge heart and was always there for anyone who needed her. In 2006, she made her home at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville where she enjoyed the company of her roommate, Linda, and the many activities she took part in.

Carroll is preceded in death by her husband, Claude; her parents; her brother, Jay Gunkel; her sister, Arlene; and her grandparents.

She is survived by her sons, Claude (Marlys) Christie; Scott (Leona) Christie; six grandchildren - Brandi, Ashley, Nicole, Tiffany, John and Julia Christie; and one great grandchild due in December. She is also survived by her sisters, Lurene (David) Holmes; Kay Juvard; and Marie (Richard) Spanswick; her brother, Gerald (Tammy) Gunkel; and her sister in law, Debbie Gunkel.
