Cecil Dean Elliott, 80, 1 2nd St. S. Fargo, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at Meritcare Hospital in Fargo.

Cecil was born February 13, 1923, at Billings, Oklahoma. He was the son of Ernest & Ona (Lee) Elliott. He grew up in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, and graduated from high school there. He then attended the University of Oklahoma, where he received a bachelors degree in architectural engineering in 1944. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1944-1946. Upon his discharge, he returned to school, graduating from Harvard University School of Design in 1948 with a masters degree.

He was a Professor of Architecture at the University of Oklahoma, University of Minnesota, North Carolina State University, Auburn University, Oklahoma State University, and University of Detroit. He came to North Dakota State University in Fargo in 1975, where he taught until his retirement in 1991. He served as chairman of the Department of Architecture from 1975-1988.

He was the author of two books: ?Technics and Architecture,? and ?The American Architect?. Cecil and Joel Goldstien also wrote ?Designing America?. He was licensed as an architect in North Carolina and Oklahoma. He was a past member of the American Institute of Architects.

He is survived by his brother, Ernest Elliott, Fargo.

A Celebration of Cecil?s life will be held at Monte?s on Broadway on Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at 7:00 p.m.

Memorials are preferred to the American Civil Liberties Union.
