Clayton Peck

Clayton Duane Peck, 89, of Fargo, North Dakota (formerly Detroit Lakes, MN), died Thursday March 10, 2016 at Villa Maria Nursing Home. Clayton was born January 16, 1927 in Pelican Rapids, MN to Charles and Borghild (Berg) Peck. He graduated from Audubon High School in 1944. The day after graduation he entered the United States Army where he served his country as a Radio Operator during World War II. He later worked as a Vice President in the building industry for many years before his retirement.
He married Norraine Inez Elton in Audubon, MN on June 19, 1949 at First Lutheran Church, Audubon, MN, and were blessed to be married for 65 years.
Clayton was a member of the VFW, Elks and American Legion and First Lutheran Church Detroit Lakes, MN. He loved gardening, hunting, taxidermy and fishing. He was a very talented woodworker and many people were fortunate to receive something beautiful that he had made.
He is survived by his wife, Norraine, 3 children; Steve (Denise) Peck, Fargo, Sharon (Barry) Dallum, (formerly Uhlig), Fargo, Shane (Jami) Peck, Souris, ND; 7 grandchildren; Shannon Cook, Stacey Boudreau, Sharla Uhlig, Shawn (Kristi) Uhlig, Sharlynn (Devin) Knutson, Scot Peck (Jessica Rux), Sasha Peck, and 6 great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Borghild Peck, 2 sisters, Shirley Hunnel and Connie McDougall, a brother, Chuck Peck.
There will be visitation from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center. A memorial service with military honors, will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Boulger Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at a later date at Audubon, MN.
The family also gives thanks to the staff at Villa Maria Nursing Home for their loving care and kindness.

Our sincere prayers and Condolences to Norraine and the Clayton Peck family. Clayton and Norraine were wonderful neighbors to us on Big Floyd Lake. We will always remember Clayton on his John Deer mower maintaining his impeccable beautiful yard and garden. They were always there for their neighbors for guidance or need. Clayton was the go to guy for questions and answers. God Bless him and his family.
We will miss Clayton and look forward to spending time with Norraine this summer

Uncle Clayton, you were a wonderful Uncle and I have a million memories of you. I rarely saw you angry. I enjoyed your laughter and humor every day. I was lucky enough to spend every summer with you, every year of my life. You are #2 in the great men in my life, #1 was already taken by my dad.
Norraine, everything I said above goes for you too. You are both very special to me. I miss you and hope to see you very soon . Love you !
I have such wonderful memories of Clayton. From when I was a little girl sneaking away from my cabin to come up to Norraine & Clayton’s for “snacks,” to picking fresh raspberries from Clayton’s garden. I am so lucky to have grown up at the cabin around you both! Clayton will be greatly missed but his memories will live on in all of us. Thinking of you all during this tough time. I love you!

Norraine, thoughts & prayers for you and the family! I have many memories of Clayton at the lake. I remember stealing quite a few raspberries out of the garden & always being called twinkle toes :). He will be missed!

THE PECK AND HUSEBY FAMILY WELCOMED JAN AND TO THERE NEIGHBORHOOD AT THE LAKE ABOUT SIX YEARS AGO . FROM DAY ONE THEY TREATED US AS FAMILY. OUR MEMORIES ARE SO VERY GREAT TRULY LOVING AND CARING ABOUT EACH OTHER. CLAYTON SPENT MANY HOURS OVER THE YEARS SITTING IN THE VAN VISITING WITH JAN AND MANY MORE HOURS SHOWING ME THE THINGS THAT I NEEDED TO KNOW TO HAVE FLOWERS AND A PASSABLE GREEN YARD. CLAYTON SHOWED ME HOW HE BUILT OUR COTTAGE FIFTY YEARS AGO WITH EVERY BOARD CUT BY HAND BECAUSE THERE WAS NO ELECTRIC POWER AT THE LAKE AT THAT TIME. AN UNBELIEVABLE FRIENDSHIP DEVELOPED VERY QUICKLY AND CLAYTON, NORRAINE , SHARON,SHANE AND THERE FAMILIES TOOK OVER A PIECE OF JAN’S AND MY HEART. THEY ALL ARE THE KINDEST GIVING PEOPLE I HAVE EVER MET IN MY EIGHTY TWO YEARS. ALTHOUGH THEY PACKED UP AND LEFT US FOR THE BIG CITY A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO , WE HAVE FORGIVEN THEM AND EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM STILL OWN A PIECE OF OUR HEARTS. WE LOVE U ALL AND AS I USED TO SAY” MR. I remember meeting Clayton in the past and I kept care of Shirley before her passing. My two brothers and I remember Charlie (father) living across the slough (now a development) from the folks in Audubon– smoked fish with my Dad. Bless his memories. Paul Hendrickson- Audubon native
My deepest sympathies to the entire family on the passing of Clayton. Sharon and I have been BEST of friends for YEARS and I am PROUD to be Shawn’s godmother. I spent many hours at Clayton and Norraine’s house in Fargo and at the lake. Clayton was a “one of a kind” man. His sense of humor was endless and you could tell when he was going to come up with “something” because he would get that twinkle in his eye and grin!! My oldest son Matthew (now 32 years old) once called Clayton “Papa Tumba” meaning Pumba from the Lion King he thought he was king of the jungle :). I have numerous fond memories of both Clayton and Norraine how he would often ask Sharon a few days before Christmas if she could “possibly go shopping for Norraine” so out to the mall we would go. One year I bought him those socks for Christmas that they use to make stuffed monkey toys out of the grey and red ones because we ALL knew Clayton hated shoes and his socks always had holes in them!! I would laugh until I hurt when him and Vince would get together you never knew what those 2 were up to!! Then there was the time I backed over part of the lawn leaving their driveway well……we ALL know how meticulous Clayton was about his lawn. Cherish your MANY memories of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. May they give you peace and comfort in the days, weeks, and months ahead. I’m quite certain Clayton already has them “rolling” beyond those pearly gates. Rest in peace Clayton and thanks to you and Norraine for always making me feel like “family”. Love you all. Teri
We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Clayton, who was always part of our summers in Minnesota. He was such an wonderful person and will be extremely missed. We remember him for his love of family, fishing, boating, adventures, and entertaining at the Lake. The real start of summer for us, (The Dwyer Family) in Minnesota, was seeing the welcoming Peck Family, our neighbors for over 50 years.

Dear Norraine and family:
Clayton was like an older brother to me for many years as Chuck and I were inseparable when we were in school. Clayton sort of shepherded us in our many escapades around our farms and kept us straight. We lived only a little over a mile apart and that was a short run for us boys.
Clayton was a good basket ball player. He and Mink Johnson were my heros from Audubon High School. I remember feeling depressed when he went away to the Army, but was proud when he became a Tank Driver. I thought that was real “cool”. Later he sold me my first car, a 1941 Packard, through Lea Perkins. I know Clayton will be missed and may God bless those he left behind. You can be very proud.
