Dale Ihry

Dale Robert Ihry, age 58, of Fargo, ND, passed away on the evening of Thursday, January 3rd, 2019, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND, surrounded by loved ones.
Dale was born July 20th, 1960, in Valley City, ND, to Adolph and Ardis (McCullough) Ihry. He grew up on a livestock and grain farm near Hope, ND. He graduated from Hope Public Schools in 1978. Dale married Brenda (Knudson) on January 2nd, 1982 at St. Agatha’s Catholic Church in Hope, ND.
Dale attended Moorhead State University where he graduated with a Business Administration degree in 1983.
Dale worked for the USDA Farm Service Agency from 1983 until retiring in 2015, at which time he was hired as the Executive Director of North Dakota Corn Utilization Council and North Dakota Corn Growers Association, where he worked until his passing.
Dale was a member of the Fargo Beer Club (FBC) and could often times be found tailgating at NDSU Bison football games. He was an avid sports fan, cheering for the Vikings, Twins, and Bison. Dale enjoyed golfing, cooking, and morning walks and/or jogging. He always enjoyed gathering with family and friends, large or small.
Dale is survived by his wife, Brenda, Fargo, ND; three children, Jessica (Matt) Linback, West Fargo, ND; Jamie (Matt) Lange, West Fargo, ND; and Tyler (Stevie) Ihry, Plymouth, MN; grandchildren, Mercedes Loos, Lennon Linback, Kylian Ihry, Elliana Lange, and Declan Ihry; siblings, Connie (Woody) Caspers, West Fargo, ND; Wade (Marilyn) Ihry, Hope, ND; Reed (Michelle) Ihry, West Fargo, ND; Neal Ihry, Hope, ND; Mary Ann Ihry, Minot, ND; Lori (Tim) Powell, Hope, ND; and Keith (Brenda) Ihry, Hope, ND; mother-in-law, Flossy Knudson, Finley, ND; sisters-in-law, Susan (Mike) Anderson, Finley, ND; and Denise (Jeff) Sloan, Finley, ND; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Ardis; brother, Gary; and infant twin siblings, Mary and Joseph.
Dale will forever be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and ally to all that met him.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 9th at from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m., followed by a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m., both at Boulger Funeral Home & Celebration of Life Center in Fargo, ND. Memorial Mass will be Thursday, January 10th at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in West Fargo, ND.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Vasculitis Foundation, Celiac Disease Foundation, Neuropsychiatric Research Institute, or any agricultural-related charity of the donor’s choice.

Dear Brenda & family, you don’t really know me but I feel like I knew Dale and all of you through my sister, Jamie. She thoroughly enjoyed working with Dale for many years. My deepest sympathies to all of the Ihry family. I did not know Dale personally. I knew his Mom Ardis & sisters Lori & Connie. Dale seemed like a wonderful man who accomplished a lot of great things in his life.
Dale was an incredible advocate for North Dakota and American agriculture. Dale was also an incredible friend. Our hearts are aching over his loss. He will be fondly remembered and missed.
As a broadcaster, I worked with Dale for many years. He was always knowledgeable, helpful, courteous and friendly. I always enjoyed our visits and I will miss him. My condolences to his family.
Dale was not only a friend, but a great professional. We brought him to USDA in Washington DC many times to train staff and create understanding for implementing rules and requirements for Farm Bill execution. He will be truly missed by all with a love for agriculture.

I share in your grief in the loss of a wonderful man. I knew Dale while working for FSA in the 80s. After leaving ND and being disconnected from the USDA for 20+ years I met Dale at a recent function and we picked up exactly where we left off. It was surprising to me to be remembered by one of the Greats of FSA! I am so saddened by Dale’s passing. Dale was a great colleague and client, who also became a friend during our three-plus years working together. He was the most informed person about U.S. commodity programs I ever met. He worked so hard for ND Corn and U.S. agriculture, and he was all about getting the job done right. I enjoyed his trips to Washington, DC, and our meetings with Members of Congress, their staff, and Administration officials. He was always so well prepared, and Dale never had a bad thing to say about anyone. I appreciated getting to know his lovely wife Brenda. My thoughts and prayers are with her and the family, and I shall miss Dale a lot.

Few people leave a path in life as great as Dale. Not only did he excel within his profession, but he was also an exceptional person. He will be remembered by everyone he came in contact with. We extend our sympathy in Dale’s passing. Hold fast the memories and fun he provided you. I met Dale in Minot where he started with ASCS as executive director. We later became co-workers and friends working in FSA.
Many don’t know this but Dale experienced the sport of Curling while in Minot. Dale was willing to give everything a try. May he rest in peace.

I was saddened to hear Dale had passed away. I knew him through FSA, and we worked together several times over the years. I always enjoyed his wit and “Dale-isms.” He was a good friend, and I will miss him.

I knew Dale to be a kind and generous family man. Someone who knew USDA and the citizens it served. Dale was always helpful, professional and a great witness for the U.S. during trial. A great guy.
