Dale Western

dale western
Dale Western, April 16, 1936 - Nov. 22, 2018, was the husband of Marian for 56 years. Raised near Rothsay, MN by Gilbert and Leva, he went on to attend Concordia College of Moorhead and the Minneapolis Art Institute. Dale had dual careers; he farmed in Rothsay and was prominent in advertising as a Commercial Artist and Editor/Art Director. He had his own business, Western Art Studios and worked at Gambles, Moorhead Tech, Flint Advertising, and GNDA throughout his career. He enjoyed travel, coffee and discussion at the round tables of Pelican Rapids and Rothsay, reading the newspaper, collecting art, slow country drives, and growing tomatoes. Dale also appreciated their residence at the lake calling it, "God's Country" and would paint the occasional art piece in his retirement. Dale will be remembered for his independent spirit, his frugality toward self and generosity toward others, his memory for history and pride for his Norwegian heritage. He is survived by wife, Marian, daughters, Kari (Joel), Siri, sister, Gerry (Sid) Engelstad, and granddaughters, Bree (Shane), and Sage. He was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Grant. The service will be Saturday, Dec. 1 at 11 a.m. (visitation at 10 a.m.), lunch to follow at St. Paul’s Free Lutheran church, 2802 12th ST S, Fargo, ND. Internment following, 2 p.m. at Our Savior's Cemetery in Rothsay, MN. Memorials may be given to Anne Carlsen Center or New Life Center.
