dane tvedt

Dane was born August 3, 1988 in Fargo, ND, the son of Tom and Leah Tvedt.  Dane and his family moved to Moorhead in 2002 where he attended and graduated from Moorhead High in 2007.

He started working at McDonalds in 2005 and quickly rose to management. At age 19, Dane purchased and renovated a home in Moorhead. Dane and his family were SUPER proud of his accomplishments.

Dane enjoyed riding bike, fishing, hiking and listening to music.

Dane loved spending time with his friends and his family unless he was "super busy right now."

Dane left our world while trying to save another. We are very proud of our Dane and will miss him dearly. We love you Dane.

    Dear Family of Dane,
Leah, I don’t know if you remember me, but I job coached a student from Moorhead High at the Golden Living Center when you were employed there. We would visit with you as you cleaned the dining room floor and we met Alec one day when he came to help you. I thought you two were the nicest people, and I missed you when you quit that job. I was so sorry to hear about what happened to Dane, and you have every reason to be proud of him. He was very brave in his attempt to rescue your neighbor boy, and Dane sounds like he accomplished a lot in his young life. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

  9. Fargo ND
I remember Dane as a cute, pudgy little first grader with a great smile and a great heart. I watched him grow and move on through elementary school and my lasting memories of him are of a kid who was nice to everyone, well-liked by his classmates, and who had a smile on his face and a good sense of humor. Obviously, he had grown into a great person as a young adult. His bravery is remarkable and inspiring. We lost an amazing person here on earth, but heaven gained a super angel.

  10. Wolford ND
    Dear Tvedt Family~

I was so saddened to hear of the loss of your wonderful son, Dane, what a heroic young man he was. Your family will forever have a guardian angel watching over you at all times. I will keep your family in all our prayers thru this most difficult time and the times to come. He is in a much better place and in heaven with Jesus and many others that have made that journey to the other side. I know that my uncle Roger would be up there and welcoming another “brother” to his many groups of family. It’s like this favorite song that my uncle roger liked….Mercy Me “I can only Imagine what that day will be when I walk ……” what a beautiful song. God bless each and everyone of you.

  11. Big Lake MN

  12. I am a teacher in Rothsay. Dane was in my son, Jake’s 3rd grade class. How sorry we are to hear of your loss. What a hero Dane was – not thinking about himself, but immediately going to help a young boy. How proud, yet how sad you must be. Please know that you are in the thoughts and prayers of many…friends, family, and strangers. We praise God for Dane’s life and letting our town share in a little part of his life.

  13. Moorhead The Tvedt Family,
I’m very sorry to hear about your loss. Dane meant a lot to everyone that knew him. I would like to share a poem that I feel describes Dane and how much he meant.
If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane I would walk right up to heaven and bring you back again. No farewell words were spoken,no time to say goodbye, you were gone before I knew it, and only God knows why. My heart still aches in sadness and secret tears still flow, that God only takes the good ones and leaves the bad behind. We will miss you Dane.

  14. ELk River MN
I remember working with Dane and he always was smiling and made running a shift just a little bit better at 8th street McD’s.

I was sad and shocked to hear that he had died, but was not shocked to hear that he died trying to save someone else.

He was someone that would help out if he could and was one of the many crew that I missed working with.

My prayers and condolences to his parents and brothers.

  17. MOORHEAD MN
    Tom, Lea, Alec and Ryan,
I’ve said it before and I will say it again, what a wonderful person Dane was. He was the kind of person you wanted friends with your child. I loved when he was here at our house because he was just part of the family. Always polite and joined right in with the joking around here. It was so natural. That laugh and smile will never be forgotten. Doug and Gwamma Kreps both said they had just seen him in the last week and it was that smile and that little shrug of the shoulder they got in response along with a small conversation. “You can’t help but love the guy.” Doug said. That is so very true.
I’ve talked to people about him and they would say ” I remember going through the drive through or going into McDonald’s and hearing the people in the back sing Beatles songs and thinking they must really enjoy themselves.
Anyone around Dane couldn’t help but enjoy themselves!
We will all miss him, and it is so true the passage in the Bible about no greater thing then to lay your life down for another. I know where he is right now, without a doubt.
Love and prayers for you all.

  18. Carrington What a brave and heroic person Dane is. Now many people would do what he did. May her rest and peace and may you be comforted knowing he is resting with the lord. God Bless you all.

  19. FargoI did not know Dane personally, but I would like to compliment on what a heroic son, brother, friend etc. for all who did know him.. it makes me happy to know that we still have people like Dane that there instinct is to run to aid in help, no questions asked. Dane was taken from us that day for a reason.. a reason we may all disagree with..but I believe God thought that he or she needed danes good heart that day to help with others in heaven. You are all in my thoughts and prayers, may you have the strength to stay strong during this rough patch… for your son, brother, friend etc. is a hero.

  20. Glyndon MN
We love and miss Dane and know our lives will never be the same without him. I know he is in a better place as his brother Alec has said. I can see him laughing and running around with joy and peace. He is our hero and will forever be in our hearts. We love you Dane! Auntie Cheri

  21. Glyndon MN
The time you had on this earth was cut short. While you were here you gave us all you had and more. You are a hero now but can’t even accept your reward on earth. Better yet you are getting the best reward up in heaven. I can just see you laughing and jumping around with Grandpa Tvedt and Grandma Ippy. Oh the joy you must have seeing Jesus and having Him hold you in His arms. We will miss you Dane even though as Alec said,”You’re in a better place”, it’s hard for us left behind. You are our hero Dane!! We will never forget you!

  28. Fargo I’ve never met Dane or his family, but I want them to know they are in my thoughts and prayers. “Greater love has no man than he who lays his life down for another.” Dane instantly reacted to try to help another person in danger, which shows what a wonderful man he was. Our hearts go out to you for your inconsolable loss. I remember Dane at a few “Boomerfests”, and I will always remember him with a smile, and a quiet and gentle way about him always. He was a sweet guy.

  37. Kenyon MnRight now, my Heart goes out to Tom,Leah,Ryan and Alex. The loss than you feel new is unimaginable especially knowing how close you all are. My memories of Dane are limited but very special. The one that stands out so much to me is the time that he and Alex stayed here for “ALMOST” a week.
I had that goofy 3 wheel Golf cart that I let them drive but they were getting bored so they wanted to drive down the driveway with it. I let them because it ran so bad you could almost walk faster. Well it happened, Dane somehow ran it into the ditch. I had my eye on them and he was frantic trying to get it back out. He was worried uncle Dwight would be “REALLY MAD” I played the roll but was laughing my insides out. I think he read me like a book though, he knew I wasn’t really mad. I showed him how to get it out and Then it was off to the tree hut and anything else to keep occupied and busy. As I said, my Love is with you at this time as always
    Uncle Dwight
