Daniel J. Berndt entered his heavenly home on Sunday, October 1, 2006 at his home under the care of Hospice. Daniel Johan Berndt was born in Elma Township, rural Hankinson, ND on August 22, 1919. He was the eighth of nine children born to Chris and Annie (Cannan) Berndt. Daniel received his grade school education at a country school in Elma Township. He later attended the North Dakota School of Science in Wahpeton and Hansen Auto School in Fargo. Daniel served in the US Army from November 1941 through June 1945. He received four Overseas Service Bars, the American Defense Service Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal. Upon discharge from the Armed Services, Daniel returned to Hankinson and began his 45 year career as a farmer on the Berndt family farm. He was a good and faithful steward of the land and all of God?s creations. On September 7, 1952, Daniel married Delores Roeder. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Brenda and Gloria. Daniel was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Lidgerwood, ND, serving in various church council positions. He also served as a judge for the Republican Party on the Elma Township Election Board for 20 years. Daniel and Delores retired to Fargo in 1997, where he was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in north Fargo. He enjoyed reading, hunting, visiting friends and relatives and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Daniel is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Delores; daughters, Brenda (Phil) Langerud of Devils Lake, ND, Gloria (Jim) Satterfield of Kalispell, MT; his cherished grandchildren, Justin (Katie) Langerud of Grand Forks, ND, Brandon Daniel Langerud of Minneapolis, MN, Elsie Satterfield and Daniel James Satterfield both of Kalispell, MT, sister, Grace Hall of Windsor, CA, sisters-in-law, Eleanor Berndt and Gleva Berndt and many nieces and nephews. Memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley, 1701 38 St. SW, Fargo, ND 58103 or Southeast Human Service Center, 2624 9th Ave. S., Fargo, ND 58103. Visitation: Wednesday, October 4 from 4-7 pm in Boulger Funeral Home, 123 10th St. S., Fargo. Prayer Service: Wednesday at 6:00 pm in the funeral home. Funeral Service: Thursday, October 5 at 10:30 am in Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1258 Broadway N., Fargo. Interment: Thursday, October 5 at 2:00 pm in Pleasant View Cemetery, Lidgerwood, ND. Arrangements entrusted to Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo.
