Darwin R Monson, 77, Cayuga, ND, formerly of Fargo, died April 6, 2010 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo.

Darwin was born July 1, 1932 to Henry and Pauline (Torkveen) Monson in Fargo, ND. Darwin graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1950. After graduation, Darwin went to work for Holsum bakery where he worked as an oven operator for over 40 years, retiring in 1991.

On Nov 28, 1958 Darwin married Elizabeth (Betty) Erlandsen in St. Mary's Cathedral, Fargo. They lived in Fargo until retiring to Cayuga in 1997.

Darwin had a life-long passion for gardening, woodcarving and drawing.  He was very proud of his Norwegian heritage and enjoyed teaching his children about the family history.  Darwin was an avid football fan and especially enjoyed the Minnesota Vikings.

Darwin is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Betty Monson, his children; Peggy (Joseph) Sullivan, Casper WY, Steven (Tammy)Monson, Rochester MN, Tracey Monson, Fargo ND, Jill (Dan) Hartl, Fargo ND, grandchildren; Moneika Schirlinger, Casper WY, Joshua Monson, St. Paul MN, Casie Monson, Bemidji MN, Tessa Hartl, Fargo ND, Levi Hartl, Fargo ND, 5 step-grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and 10 step-great grandchildren.

There will be a funeral service on Saturday, April 10 in St. Mary's Cathedral, Fargo starting at 10:00 AM with visitation starting at 9:00.

There will be a prayer service on Friday, April 9 at 5:00 P.M. in St. Mary's Cathedral with visitation starting at 3:00 P.M. in the cathedral.
