David J. Hoffart

David J. Hoffart, 70, Fargo passed away Monday, July 17, 2017 at Essentia Health, Fargo due to complications from heart disease and kidney failure.
Dave was born April 17, 1947 in Rugby, North Dakota to Jacob and Magdalene (Deck) Hoffart. He graduated from Rugby High School in 1965. He attended college at Minot State University where he was active in the TKE Fraternity. He married Suellyn Seymour in New Rockford, ND on May 24, 1975, and they had three children.
He owned and operated Dave’s TV and Appliances in Rugby, ND before moving to Fargo in 1990. He worked for Norandex until his retirement in 2012. As a self-taught musician, he played in many different bands throughout his life. Most recently, he’s known for playing the organ and singing with “Thick, Thin & Chunky” and “The Old Rascals.”
He loved his garden, as well as canning his own vegetables and salsa. He also enjoyed spending time with his family. He had an unwavering passion for the MN Twins and Vikings. He will forever be remembered by his infectious laugh, playing in the band, running the football pools and his “traditional Hoffart schnoz.”
He is survived by his children; Chris (Melissa) Hoffart, Grand Forks, ND, Chelsey (Jonathan) LaBonte, Grand Forks, ND, Andrew (Krista) Hoffart, Hill AFB, UT, granddaughter, Alexis LaBonte, Grand Forks, ND, two brothers, Richard (Sheri) Hoffert, Bismarck, ND, Francis (Louisa) Hoffart, Santa Clara, CA, sister, Rita (Steve) Holm, Lake Forest, CA, his longtime companion, Darlene Berube, West Fargo, ND, former wife, Suellyn Hoffart, Grand Forks, ND and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ray Hoffart, and nephew, Joseph Hoffart.
Funeral Service: 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Boulger Funeral Home & Celebration of Life Center, Fargo with visitation starting at 1:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, enjoy a meal at your favorite restaurant surrounded by family, because that’s what he would have wanted.

Our condolences to the Hoffart family. Cousin Dave was a very unique man. He was musically gifted and very humorous. We were roommates and fraternity brothers in college. It wasn’t necessarily for knowledge that we went to college,but to raise hell while we were there. We were quite successful at that. We have kept in touch over the years and had a couple visits in Texas. Dave was a true friend and a great person who had a great love of life and family. Rest In Peace my friend.
Davy was a fabulous musician and a great guy.
He will be missed by a lot of people. So sorry to his family for his loss…God Bless You!!

Dave was a great guy, very good at his job, he surprised and entertained many customers with his musical talents.

What a great guy! Dave was a great fraternity brother, and always a fun and crazy guy! Great memories from our Minot State days. Condolences to Dave’s family.
In addition to being a fellow classmate of the best class of RHS—class of 1965, Davey and I also share a grand-niece and grand nephew as well as a great grand niece and great grand nephew. Whew, that makes us sound old. My deepest sympathies to Davey’s children, his siblings, and to our class. We lost the life of the party. Davey died 7-17—-that night, although it was 7-18 at 0234, there was a huge thunderclap here in Northeast Bismarck. I almost had to wipe my husband of the ceiling. I told Gary, it is just Davey playing WIPEOUT. Heaven is a better place. Our reunions will never be the same without the curly haired dynamo, Davey Hoffart.

Davey was a close childhood friend with a crazy sense of humor. I miss you old friend.

Condolences to the Hoffart family. We will always remember Dave for his good humor, his laugh and his ability to always make you feel at home when we came to visit.
“Who fart, we fart, we all fart for Hoffart!” I’ll never forget that! We’ll remember a GREAT guy, TKE brother, and a GREAT musican! He sat in with our band several times in Washburn, ND area–and had a blast performing with him.

Sympathy and caring thoughts are with David’s family. I have many fun memories of David as a classmate during 12 years of elementary and high school. He will be missed at the next reunion of the Rugby High School Class of 1965.
