David Kapaun Sr., 84, Fargo, ND died March 31, 2016, at home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley with his family by his side. David John Kapaun Sr. was born December 12, 1931 to Frank and Elsie (Laufenberg) Kapaun in Alice, North Dakota. He was the youngest of five children. He grew up in Alice, North Dakota. He married Elsie Lacher from Lisbon, North Dakota on June 16, 1951. They had nine children. She passed away in 1998. He was a trucking operation supervisor for 20 years previous to retirement. In his last years he was a petroleum manager for a chain of convenience stores. He lived in Fargo, ND for a number of years then moved to St. Paul, MN. After retirement in 1998 he moved to Lake Park, MN. He married Linda Jacklitch February 14, 2002 in Hawaii. They summered at Leaf Lake in Lake Park, MN and wintered in Weslaco, TX. In 2012 they made their final return home to Fargo, ND. He loved traveling, sightseeing, dancing, listening to music, and meeting people in different walks of life. He enjoyed remodeling and enjoyed all of his jobs in life. He was involved with St Mary’s Church finance board as treasurer, Inner City adult education-president, St Mary’s advisory board, boy scout council committee chairman, CCD and PTA’s, also Horace Mann and Shanley PTA’s. He belonged to various clubs-Knights of Columbus, Eagles, Moose Lodge, and the Elks. He saw many challenges in his lifetime. He will be sadly missed by his wife Linda, his family, and many friends that knew him. He is survived by his wife Linda; his children: David, Jr. (Kathy) WA, Steven (Wanda) TX, Nancy (Peter) Platzer, TN, Becky, ND, Mary (Gary) Parsons, WI, Glenn, MN, Perry, MN; son-in-law, Greg Willert, IA; his step children: James (Wendi) MA, Lee (Tanya) ND, and Lorene (Heath) Stolp, MN. He also leaves 12 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and step-grandchildren. His is preceded in death by his parents, wife-Elsie, and two daughters, Kathryn Willert and Cleo, a grandson-Christopher, two sisters-Anna and Vivian and two brothers Francis and Veran.

  4. We are sorry to learn about your Dad’s passing. I remember Elsie and his wedding as well as the many times we interacted when they lived in Little Canada. We had some good times.together. For medical reasons, we will not be able to come to the funeral but will keep him in our prayers. Perhaps, when she ha time, Nancy can email us with more details. God bless.
