David Tobin

July 02, 1964 - August 26, 2018

Dave passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Sanford Hospital Palliative Care Unit in Fargo, surrounded by his loving family, and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

David Michael Tobin was born on July 2, 1964 in Bemidji, MN, the son of Donald and Judy (Kelly) Tobin. He grew up in this area and graduated from Bemidji High School. Following his graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. After an honorable discharge, he spent some time in Alaska. He later returned home to Minnesota and began his career at Grant’s Mechanical in Fargo where he worked many years. Dave was united in marriage to Linda Lenertz on August 4, 2001 and they have made their home in Moorhead since that time.

In October of 2008, Dave had a devastating spinal cord injury as a result of a fall from an apple tree. In spite of this life changing event, Dave never felt sorry for himself, never complained, and always faced each day and each new challenge with a courageous spirit and attitude. He loved spending time outdoors and especially his time at the lake fishing. He loved people – visiting, helping, and always joking. For the past 10 years, Linda affectionately cared for Dave in their home, with the assistance from his very special care givers.

Dave is survived by his wife, Linda Tobin of Moorhead; his step-son, Rory Lenertz of Moorhead; his step-daughter, Tara Lenertz of Clemson, SC; his mother, Judy Tobin of Bemidji; his siblings – Shelly (Mark) Chesbro of Big Lake, MN; Chuck Tobin of Moorhead; Patrick (Jessica) Tobin of Proctor, MN; several nieces and nephews; many special cousins, aunts and uncles, and his God daughter, Alyssa Stutlien. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Joanne Wilson; sister-in-law, Deb Wilson; brother-in-law, Duane Wilson; and sister-in-law, Carol (Mike Meade) Wilson; and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Tobin; his uncle, Gary Kelly; and his father-in-law, Alvin Wilson.

Linda wishes to thank Dr. Sand and his staff at the Moorhead Sanford for their many years of support and care for Dave.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to www.craighospital.org

Dave’s Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. A reception will follow the service in the Celebration of Life Center at Boulger Funeral Home. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date at his favorite fishing spot.
