Delbert Gene Lee, Fargo, ND passed away on Monday, February 2, 2015 at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo. He was born on October 4, 1928 to Severt and Agnes (Hovland) Lee in Wellsburg, North Dakota. The family lived there until moving to Harvey where Delbert was raised and attended school.
Delbert enlisted in the Navy in 1948 and served during the Korean War on the U.S.S. Colonial. He earned a Korean Service Medal with two stars and a Navy Occupation Medal before being honorably discharged in 1952.
Following his service, he worked on the Iron Range in Northern Minnesota as a heavy equipment operator. Delbert then moved to Moorhead, MN where he worked as a driver for Nash Finch and raised his three children with his wife Elaine. He was employed at Nash Finch until his retirement.
On August 28, 1998 he was united in marriage to Martha (Grossman) Erfle in Fargo. The couple made their home in Fargo.
Delbert was a longtime member of the VFW. He enjoyed sharing a cup of coffee with his buddies. Going to thrift stores and collecting antiques were some of Delbert’s favorite hobbies. He was a caring and generous man who was always there to help anyone in need.
He is survived by his wife, Martha; his children, Jim Lee, Kevin Lee, and Debbie Leapelt; stepchildren, Leao (Gayle) Erfle, Ronald Erfle, Vernice (Rick) Helgeson, Elizabeth (Paul) Erdmann, Bonita (Dan) Evert; sisters, Ella Robinson, Shirley Discher; brother, Richard (Nancy) Lee; sister-in-law, Bernice Lee; five grandchildren; four-great-grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; and 8 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister; brothers, Stanley, Julean, and Arnold.
